Outlander: Blood of My Blood’s Jeremy Irvine was initially sceptical about character romance

Actor Jeremy Irvine from Outlander: Blood of My Blood expressed doubts about the way Julia and Henry fall in love in the prequel series, as it portrays the love story of Claire and Jamie Fraser’s parents, revealing that he initially found it hard to believe.

During a distinctive gathering at a fan event in London, commemorating the series’ premiere, he reminisced about the moment these characters cross paths. In this narrative, Henry serves as a soldier during World War I, while Julia works in an editorial office. One of his letters finds its way onto her desk within this setting.

Irvine observed that Henry appears to have lost faith in life. His only remaining connection, almost like a final attempt, seems to be an open letter. Remarkably, within the extraordinary events of the Outlander world, this letter somehow lands on his soulmate’s desk, sparking a love connection through their written words.

Later on, Irvine reminisced about the moment when they met for the first time and he felt instinctively certain, yes, absolutely certain, that it was her.

He recounted saying to executive producer Matt Roberts over the phone, “This won’t seem believable to anyone. Nobody will believe it,” to which Matt replied, “I want there to be a sense of enchantment about this realm.

“And it was only when I saw it, I went, ‘Oh my God, yeah, you’re completely right.'”

In simpler terms, Irvine said, “There’s a strong sense of it, yet it’s wonderfully refreshing in today’s jaded world to find such unadulterated optimism and immerse oneself within it.” He further added that the art of letter writing during that era might have contributed to this effect as well.

“They fall in love before they even meet, and I think there’s something really beautiful in that.”

In their initial meeting, there was a similar sensation to magic, as Harriet Slater put it, they seemed to have fallen in love instantly.

Slater mentioned that while not everyone may share this belief, the scene was designed as a dramatic, magical moment – akin to the meeting of two fated souls, which introduces an element of fantasy into the storyline.

According to Jamie Roy, these two characters instantly sense, upon catching a fleeting glimpse of each other, that there’s some kind of connection between them.

A mysterious attraction brings them closer than ever before, a connection unlike any other. It’s truly extraordinary, and we hoped our presentation conveyed its uniqueness.
