It remains undecided whether Margot Robbie, John Cena’s fellow actor in “The Suicide Squad,” will transition from the DCEU to the DC Universe like him, as she has not yet confirmed any plans to do so.
Is Margot Robbie returning as Harley Quinn for James Gunn’s DCU?
As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, let me express my admiration for Margot Robbie’s captivating portrayal of Harley Quinn in the DC Extended Universe. Her performance as the iconic Batman villain not only resonated with fans but also stole the show. Debuting in Suicide Squad back in 2016, she was a standout among the ensemble. However, it was in Birds of Prey (2020) where she truly shone as the leading lady. In 2021, she graced our screens once again, this time as a co-lead in The Suicide Squad, helmed by James Gunn, who has since taken on an influential role at DC Studios.
Although Gunn has established certain events and characters from The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker within the DC Universe, it’s uncertain whether Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn. In a conversation with Variety, Robbie stated that she hasn’t received any updates yet about returning as the beloved antiheroine.
As a film enthusiast who’s played the iconic character of Harley Quinn, I can honestly say that I never grow tired of her. She’s more than just a role; she’s a passion that runs deep within me. Much like Batman, I’ve always held high expectations for her, and I believe in her enduring love story even after my portrayal has come to an end. If given the chance, I’d be thrilled to continue bringing Harley to life in the DCU, but should that not be the case, I wholeheartedly embrace the idea of someone else stepping into those Joker-tainted boots. In essence, I feel it’s essential for me to share this extraordinary character with others and watch her story unfold through fresh eyes.
Approximately a week ago, Robbie’s comments emerged about possibly portraying Harley Quinn in the DCU. At present, the Batman section of the DCU is mostly unexplored, as Gunn is currently focusing on developing the Superman series. Nevertheless, a Clayface spinoff and a solo Batman movie titled “The Brave and the Bold” are soon to start and continue production respectively. However, it’s anticipated that the DCU’s Batman won’t appear until after Matt Reeves’ sequel “The Batman Part II,” which takes place in an independent shared universe called “The Batman Epic Crime Saga.
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is scheduled to hit theaters on September 19, 2025.
