This year signifies twenty full years since the Jonas Brothers first recorded a song together, which was back in 2005. One of their fan favorites is also one of their earliest releases: “Year 3000,” a reimagining of Busted’s song with the same title. In an upcoming interview with Kelly Clarkson, scheduled for 2025 television, the JoBros reminisced about Clarkson being name-checked in the song and her delightful response to it.
As a die-hard music lover, I still vividly remember when the Jonas Brothers joined Kelly Clarkson for their collaborative series, “Songs & Stories,” and she shared an amusing anecdote about being part of the “Year 3000.” To quote her, “That was the moment I found out I was destined to be a part of the ‘Year 3000’!
It appears that a conversation went something like this: At an event, someone asked, “Did you hear the Jonas Brothers song?” To which I responded, “What, never?” The person replied, “They mention your name!” and my reaction was, “Wow!” I exclaimed, “That’s so awesome to be mentioned in any context within pop culture.” I just love it.
In a gathering, someone asked if I had heard the Jonas Brothers song, to which I said I hadn’t. They told me that my name is referenced in the song, and I was amazed! It’s so cool when your name pops up in popular culture, I just love it.
Allow me to reminisce about roughly twenty years ago. The year was 2007, and Kelly Clarkson was thriving in her music career with extensive touring in support of her albums “Breakaway” and “My December”. It wasn’t long after she had won two Grammys at the tender age of 23, a feat that followed her rise to fame as the first season winner of “American Idol”.
In the song, as the Jonas Brothers, who were still young at the time, envisioned their future success in the year 3000, they sang about achieving multi-platinum status and selling more albums than Kelly Clarkson. Interestingly enough, the band has since released their seventh album titled “Greeting From Your Hometown” and is currently touring, while Clarkson has become well-known for hosting a daytime talk show, performing viral Kellyoke covers, and serving as a judge on “The Voice.
In awe, I discovered that I was unknowingly part of a beloved tune when a fan pointed it out to me, and I couldn’t help but get excited about the revelation. Interestingly enough, even before this realization, my name had already made an appearance in “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” during Steve Carell’s character’s waxing scene. During our chat, Nick Jonas humorously reminisced about a quirky link we shared while working on the song we co-wrote together.
For quite some time during job interviews, we’d often mention, ‘Sure, we opened for Kelly Clarkson.’ However, it was not as if we were openers; instead, we performed at the B, C stage in a parking lot.
Reflecting on our humble beginnings, my brother and I had the privilege of performing at the same festival as Kelly Clarkson in our home state, New Jersey. Though our stages were far from hers, we fondly claimed that we had the honor to open for her – a claim she graciously embraced, considering us her opening act by those standards.
In the distant future of the Year 3000, it’s fascinating to consider what lies ahead for both the Jonas Brothers and Kelly Clarkson. Yet, it seems quite poetic that they find themselves together in one space, discussing each other’s accomplishments.
