In partnership with Crazy Raccoon, a Japanese video game company, the creator of “Oshi no Ko” launched two new manga series: “RBR – Crazy Raccoon Battle Royale” and “Karubi Momareru,” which were simultaneously published in the Comic HOWL magazine. The first, “RBR – Crazy Raccoon Battle Royale,” tells the story of a secluded boy who was devastated by the death of his older brother. Spending most of his time engrossed in video games, he never imagined he would have an opportunity to join the thrilling world of E-Sports, where he must risk everything. Conversely, “Karubi Momareru” is a high-calorie comedy series inspired by V-Tuber Akami Karubi, who is also associated with Team Crazy Raccoon.
The two series are each illustrated by distinct artists, leaving Akasaka solely responsible for their storylines. Given that these series appear weekly, the workload could potentially be demanding, considering Akasaka is also engaged in an ongoing romance fantasy titled “Maerchen Crown“, illustrated by Azychika who is also known for “Record of Ragnarok“. Debuting in Shueisha’s “Weekly Young Jump” in March 2025, “Maerchen Crown” has sparked a lot of excitement, especially since it is Akasaka’s first manga following the contentious ending of “Oshi no Ko“. With these new releases, some fans have speculated if “Maerchen Crown” might be discontinued. However, is there any truth to this?
Oshi no Ko Creator’s Fantasy Series Has an Uncertain Future
So far, the Manga Plus app has made 17 chapters of this series available, all free to read. Each week, these new chapters attract thousands of views on the app, suggesting they’re doing fairly well. But since Maerchen Crown hasn’t even published its first volume yet, we can’t definitively say if it’s a success or not just yet. Typically, Shueisha doesn’t evaluate a series’ potential for profit until at least a year has passed.
If sales volume isn’t meeting expectations, they might choose to cancel the series informally rather than officially, but for now, “Maerchen Crown” appears secure due to its unique blend of horror elements within a reinterpreted fairy tale (Rapunzel in this case). Azychika’s art continues to impress visually, offering an aesthetic pleasure. Although not everyone might appreciate the story just yet, given its early stage, it deserves some time to grow and gain traction with viewers.
