Emmanuel Haro Case: What to Know About the Search for the 7-Month-Old

As the hours leading up to 7-month-old son Emmanuel Haro‘s disappearance approached, Rebecca Haro found herself experiencing a rather ordinary feel instead.

At approximately 7 p.m. on August 14th, she was at a park in Yucaipa, California, accompanied by her baby boy, Jake Haro (their son’s father), and their two other children. They were there for their older son’s football practice. She informed KTLA 5 that following the practice, they headed to a nearby Big 5 Sporting Goods store where she bought a mouthguard with Emmanuel. While in the store, she realized that Emmanuel needed a diaper change. She laid him down next to his car seat to attend to his needs.

According to Rebecca, it was at that point that things started to turn chaotic. When she went to get a diaper, someone greeted her with a ‘Hola’. However, since she couldn’t see anything after that, she explained to the outlet on August 15. She claims she was knocked unconscious, suffered a black eye, and upon waking up found herself lying on the floor and the infant was missing. In simpler terms, she awoke to find herself on the floor with no sign of Emmanuel around.

Rebecca, after checking her vehicle, quickly ran into the store and phoned the police. This prompted the authorities to initiate their search for Emmanuel, who was last spotted sporting a black Nike onesie, standing around 24 inches tall, with brown hair, brown eyes, and a cross-eyed condition.

Despite numerous efforts, the investigation into Emmanuel’s disappearance has unfortunately raised more questions than it has answered so far. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced on their August 22 Instagram post that there is no evidence of a kidnapping in Yucaipa as previously suspected, and they now believe Emmanuel may have passed away. They are currently engaged in an ongoing search to locate his remains.

On Aug. 22, Rebecca and Jake were arrested on a murder charge.

On August 22, 2025, detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Homicide Detail and Specialized Enforcement Division apprehended Jake and Rebecca Haro at their Cabazon residence. The Riverside County Superior Court had issued warrants for their arrest on charges of PC 187 – Murder. Both individuals were later detained in a Riverside County jail without the option of bail. No additional arrests have been made, and no further suspects are currently being sought. Despite these developments, our primary goal is still to locate Emmanuel.

On August 14, at around 7:47 p.m., the sheriff’s department was called to a retail store due to Rebecca claiming she was attacked by an unknown man and lost consciousness while changing her baby’s diaper in the parking lot. However, doubts were raised following interviews with Emmanuel’s parents.

During those interviews, Rebecca faced discrepancies between her first statement and what she was being asked, and she decided not to proceed with the interview, as stated by the sheriff’s department on August 16. At present, investigators cannot exclude the possibility that there may have been foul play in the disappearance of Emmanuel.

Prior to the August 22nd apprehension of Rebecca and Jake, the sheriff’s department disclosed that they had executed multiple search warrants at the Haro residence in Cabazon. They also deployed K9 units, reviewed security camera footage, and confiscated Jake’s car as they searched for any possible evidence.

Jake’s legal representative, Vincent Hughes, informed the Los Angeles Times that Jake is actively cooperating with the investigation. Moreover, he revealed that the couple willingly handed over their mobile phones to investigators, granted access to their home, and permitted the seizure of other electronic devices-consisting of two iPads and three Xboxes-by the authorities.

As an ardent admirer, I eagerly share that Jake has consistently asserted his belief that law enforcement is welcome to drop by, feel free to explore at will – a point I stressed to a newspaper on August 19th. Contrary to any rumors, they haven’t vanished; instead, they remain resolutely in their home. I feel it’s crucial to reassure the public that their whereabouts have not changed and they continue to face potential threats to their safety within their family residence.

With regards to the apparent discrepancies in Rebecca’s narratives, Vincent explained these as emotional overrides, triggered by the vanishing of Emmanuel. Furthermore, he mentioned that she declined to undergo a polygraph test when it was proposed by the officials.

Vincent stated to the media, “It’s unthinkable for any lawyer to let such an occurrence take place. Moreover, nobody should ever agree to a polygraph test because its results are not backed by solid scientific proof and cannot be admitted as evidence in a court of law.

In my personal account, I’m not a stranger to interactions with the authorities. As reported by the Los Angeles Times, citing court documents, Jake was found guilty of willful child cruelty in 2023, an incident related to a child in Hemet. Yet, it’s crucial to emphasize that this legal matter holds no connection whatsoever to Emmanuel’s vanishing.

Jake admitted to having a history involving criminal activity in the past. However, he clarified that they are not trying to hide this past, but emphasized that the details of that incident differ significantly from the current situation. Moreover, one wrongdoing does not automatically imply guilt for every crime possible, particularly when it comes to harming one’s own child.

Currently, investigators are persistently seeking out Emmanuel. Two days prior to Jake and Rebecca’s apprehension, the sheriff’s department informed KTLA 5 about a potential sighting of the infant in Kern County.

We’ve been looking into claims that 7-month-old Emmanuel Haro was seen, but so far, we haven’t found him,” the sheriff’s department stated on August 20. “Emmanuel’s father has hired a lawyer, and if his parents decide to collaborate with our detectives, we encourage their participation as we persist in our search for Emmanuel.

Regarding the fire at a nearby property, the sheriff’s department stated they have been in touch with the investigators handling that case.

They mentioned on August 20th that there’s no evidence yet linking the fire with other incidents, but they’ll keep collaborating with investigators as the investigation unfolds. Emmanuel remains the primary subject of this inquiry, and they will persist in their search for him. Additionally, authorities thanked everyone involved in the case.

In a post on August 22nd, Sheriff Shannon Dicus stated that the situation connected with this investigation is heartbreaking, and they will persist in their search for Emmanuel. He expressed gratitude towards the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office, Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, the community, and media for shedding light on this case. He believes that our justice system will ensure the parents face consequences for their actions.
