On September 12th, “Demon Slayer” will introduce the initial segment of its trilogy finale, titled “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle,” to North America. Picking up where season four ended off, this shonen film is causing a stir in Japan and could surpass the earnings of its precursor, “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train.” According to recent reports, “Infinity Castle” is poised for success in North American cinemas, further demonstrating anime’s growing influence.
Based on reports from Deadline, the upcoming anime film “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” is projected to earn between $20-$29 million during its opening weekend in the U.S. Pre-sale ticket numbers earlier this summer indicated that the movie had already made around $10 million in the States, suggesting it could surpass the earnings of “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train.” The initial “Demon Slayer” film opened with about $21 million, but since then, the franchise has seen significant growth. Globally, “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” has already grossed over $200 million, even before its North American release. As for the subsequent films in the trilogy, their release dates are yet to be revealed, but they could potentially rake in substantial profits as well.
To The Infinity Castle
Previously, during the Hashira Training Arc, things weren’t in the best shape for Tanjiro and his companions as Muzan targeted the Demon Slayer Corps, leaving them leaderless and thrust into the lair of the world’s strongest demons – the Infinity Castle. This fortress offers a challenging encounter with Muzan and his minions for the Hashira members and our heroic protagonists. The upcoming movie, with its lengthy duration of more than two and a half hours, provides ample opportunity for them to eliminate the demonic threat once and for all.
Although the anime adaptation of “Demon Slayer” is still ongoing, the manga concluded its story in 2020, marking a definitive end to Koyoharu Gotouge’s popular shonen series. Despite its remarkable success, there has been no confirmation about any potential sequels or spin-offs. Since “Demon Slayer” concluded in Weekly Shonen Jump, there has been quite a gap left by the departure of Tanjiro and the Hashira, leaving room for new series to take their place. As other popular shonen titles like “Black Clover” and “One Piece” also approach their final chapters, the future direction of the shonen genre is a topic that will undoubtedly spark much discussion in the coming years.
Are you curious to find out whether the Demon Slayer Corps will surpass the box office success of the Mugen Train? Wish to discover if there could be a future shonen sequel to Tanjiro’s story?
