Every year, the Glastonbury Festival serves as a musical journey for countless attendees, however, in 2026, it’s expected that Worthy Farm will be unusually tranquil.
Emily Eavis, the event coordinator, has disclosed that there won’t be a festival in 2026; instead, it will take a break to rejuvenate, returning refreshed in 2027.
This coming weekend, I’ll be part of an unforgettable musical extravaganza alongside artists like The 1975, Neil Young, and Olivia Rodrigo, along with many more. It’s going to be a time that we’ll all remember for quite some time!
2026 finds me taking a much-needed pause from our beloved festival. Here are the reasons behind this brief hiatus and why it holds such significance:
1. Rest and Rejuvenation: After years of non-stop celebration, the festival organizers believe that this break will provide them with the necessary time to recharge their creative batteries.
2. Revitalizing the Experience: This hiatus offers an opportunity for the team to rethink, reinvent, and revamp certain aspects of the festival to ensure it continues to deliver a unique and unforgettable experience for attendees in the future.
3. Ensuring Sustainability: By taking a break, we can reassess our environmental impact and implement measures that will help us continue to celebrate the festival responsibly while minimizing our footprint on the planet.
4. Connecting with the Community: The hiatus allows us to focus on strengthening our connections with local communities, building partnerships, and ensuring that the festival remains rooted in its cultural heritage while also embracing new ideas and perspectives.
5. Celebrating Our Past, Embracing Our Future: This temporary absence serves as a reminder of our rich history and allows us to reflect on our past accomplishments. It also provides an opportunity to look forward and dream up exciting possibilities for the future of the festival.
So, while we may miss the rhythm of the music and the joyous atmosphere that fills the air during our annual gathering, I believe this hiatus is vital for our beloved festival’s continued success and growth. Let’s stay connected and look forward to what the future holds!
Why is Glastonbury Festival not returning in 2026?

2026 has been announced as a break year for Worthy Farm, the venue of the annual festival, according to Emily Eavis’ confirmation in June 2024.
In simpler terms, follow years refer to deliberate periods of rest for farmlands as part of a farming technique. This method lets the land recover by not being cultivated, allowing the soil to restore its nutrients and promoting grass growth suitable for livestock grazing.
On BBC’s Sidetracked podcast, Emily conveyed to Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw that the farm requires some time for restoration.
She mentioned that we’re approaching a resting period in our farming cycle. This rest period, also known as a fallow year, is crucial since it allows the soil to recuperate, and during this time, the cows can graze on the land for extended periods, helping them reclaim their pastures.
I believe it’s crucial, as it allows everyone to take a break, including the public. It can certainly be overwhelming at times, right? But stepping away for a while makes returning feel so refreshing. Moreover, I think it’s beneficial not to appear as if we are exploiting the situation.
Normally, a fallow period occurs every five years during our festival. The most recent official fallow year was in 2018. But due to the COVID-19 pandemic, both the 2020 and 2021 festivals had to be cancelled, so we’ve essentially started over from that point on.
In an interview with the BBC before this year’s event, Emily mentioned that taking a break, or the fallow year, benefits the town of Pilton, Cornwall, because it allows them some much-needed rest too.
