When James Gunn and Peter Safran were appointed as the decision-makers for DC Studios, viewers speculated about what parts of DC’s cinematic history would end up in the DC Universe. Since Jason Momoa, who played Aquaman, has taken on a new role in Supergirl as Lobo, fans were ready to let go of what we saw in the two Aquaman films. Now, it appears that Patrick Wilson and James Wan, who co-starred with Momoa in those movies, have also confirmed their involvement is over. Wilson will next appear in The Conjuring: Last Rites, which is set for release on September 5th.
Wilson admitted that he has never spoken with James Gunn regarding the DCU because they have not crossed paths. Since Peter, Gunn’s partner, is their producer, Wilson has been acquainted with Peter for a long time. They discussed what was required with Orm, so yes, he appreciates the person and the character very much.
In a similar vein, when asked about DCU discussions, it was acknowledged that we’ve only had brief, superficial conversations with Peter, but I’ve decided to step away from directing for a while to focus on my mental health. Directing can be incredibly demanding, draining both physically and emotionally. However, who knows what the future holds? For now, I’m gradually re-entering the scene. What truly intrigues me is the possibility of diving back into horror filmmaking, as I have a deep appreciation for that genre.
Regrettably, I’m sharing the most recent news concerning the direction of the Aquaman series within the DCU. Noteworthy is the upcoming Aquaman appearance in Peacemaker as well.
Just recently, Gunn himself stated on “The Official Podcast with James Gunn: Peacemaker”, “I believe Aquaman isn’t canon… It seems quite improbable that Aquaman is as renowned a hero in the DCU as Superman or Peacemaker, given that Season 2 of Peacemaker is underway.
It’s understandable that some fans of the DC hero and his team might be disappointed, but it also signifies a fresh chance for a group of new actors to make these characters uniquely their own.
Fans anticipating DCU news can look forward to seeing Patrick Wilson in “The Conjuring: Last Rites.” This movie is where Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson reteam for one final case, portraying the real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. The film promises to be a thrilling and chilling addition to the successful franchise.
Keep an eye out for news about the upcoming developments in the DC Universe. On September 5th, you can catch The Conjuring: Last Rites in movie theaters.
