As an avid fan, I’m thrilled to share that the Blue Beetle isn’t leaving us any time soon within the DC Universe! In a fascinating chat, James Gunn has subtly suggested that his appearance may be on the horizon.
What do we know about Blue Beetle’s DCU future?
In a chat with IMDB, Gunn was questioned about the character’s potential future appearances on Peacemaker. The interviewer hinted at hoping to see this character in upcoming seasons, to which Gunn humorously responded by suggesting that it might not be entirely out of the question.
Although Gunn didn’t explicitly confirm the character’s appearance, his joke implied as much. The Blue Beetle, portrayed by Xolo Maridueña, debuted on screen within the DC Extended Universe in 2023, marking his first appearance in film. However, despite being introduced to the DCU by Gunn when he and Peter Safran established DC Studios, the character has yet to feature in any projects as of now.
Currently, we’re uncertain about the exact release date for the new Blue Beetle movie. It’s worth noting that this film isn’t considered part of the main DC Universe storyline (DCU). Director James Gunn has confirmed that while Blue Beetle is indeed a character in the DCU, the movie and any previous DC media produced before the first four projects within the new DCU will not be included in Gunn’s own continuity.
A television show featuring Blue Beetle is reportedly being developed. Initially announced in 2024, this animated series was speculated to serve as a starting point for a full-length DC Universe film, but no updates have been given since then. The most recent news indicates that Maridueña suggested the show might be released as early as 2026.
