Peacemaker Season 2 Features a Massive Batman Twist (& You Missed It)

In a direct and engaging style: James Gunn’s DC Universe isn’t shying away from the Dark Knight character. In the series Creature Commandos, Doctor Phosphorus reveals that Batman played a key role in his downfall, dismantling the criminal organization he controlled in Gotham City. While there’s no direct mention of Batman in the second DCU project, Superman, a road sign during Metropolis’ evacuation subtly references his hometown. Although it may be some time before Batman interacts with other characters in the DCU due to Matt Reeves’ ongoing work on the sequel to his 2022 film, it’s clear that he continues to protect the world from threats.

In the second season of “Peacemaker”, we find ourselves exploring a different universe, one that shares similarities with the original but also harbors significant differences. For instance, Batman appears to have been replaced by another figure. One might assume it would be simple for Peacemaker to restore order and reclaim his status in this world, but things may not be as straightforward as they seem.

Peacemaker Season 2 Shows Chris Smith What Life Could’ve Been

Even after my triumphant victory against the Butterfly insurgency in the climax of Peacemaker Season 1, I find myself in a precarious situation as the narrative unfolds for my second act. Emilia Harcourt has coldly distanced herself from me following our brief fling, and my attempts at heroism are met with skepticism and derision by the public. A chance to speak with the Justice Gang momentarily rekindles hope within me, but the conversation quickly degenerates into a barrage of jokes from Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, and Maxwell Lord. With nowhere to turn for comfort, I decide to host a party at my house, indulge in drugs, and ultimately find the resolve needed to step through the door in my father’s pocket universe that opens up to another Peacemaker’s domain.

In this alternate dimension, Chris finds his brother Keith alive, and part of a group of superheroes known as the Top Trio. Their family home is adorned with memorabilia from their thrilling escapades, suggesting they’re revered like the Justice Gang or even more highly. Upon Keith’s return, Chris, alongside his father, absorbs the amazing revelation. It dawns on him what life might have been if his father hadn’t been so reckless. But the realization is bound to come that he’s living a deception, and furthermore, usurping the life of another prominent DC hero.

The Top Trio Is The Bat-Family of Their Reality

Instead of the original Chris, the Peacemaker character who teams up with his brother and father resides in a spacious mansion, boasting advanced technology – much like Wayne Manor, serving as the base for the Bat-Family in most DC representations. However, unlike Batman and his associates, this trio is more outspoken and newsworthy, often receiving awards and making headlines. They still move in similar social circles; an article even mentions they thwarted Ultra-Humanite’s plans in Gotham. Interestingly, when Keith first encounters them, he mistakenly assumes Chris is in Blüdhaven, the town Nightwing safeguards.

If the Batman group were present, they wouldn’t likely welcome another hero team appearing in their area and trying to take center stage. It seems plausible that the Batman character is absent on the Earth where Chris is in Season 2, with Auggie Smith serving as the wealthy hero who trains his children for crime-fighting instead. However, whether this change is beneficial or detrimental remains uncertain, as the Top Trio performs well, but they might have secrets that could compel Chris to make a difficult decision towards the end of the season.
