Meghan Markle threw one of her guests for quite the loop.
During a craft session with Chrissy Teigen on the show “With Love, Meghan,” where they were creating jewelry from dried flowers for their children, the Duchess of Sussex accidentally called the Hawthorn flower by the wrong name, “Honsworth.” This moment left Chrissy slightly confused, as she assumed there might be another child she wasn’t informed about.
In simpler terms, “Chrissy (married to John Legend and mother of Luna, Miles, Esti, and Wren) confessed, ‘Do you have a son named Honsworth?’
In response to this, Meghan, who has children Archie and Lilibet with Prince Harry, playfully retorted, “You don’t even know who my kids are.
“By the way,” Meghan added, “if I could’ve have kept a secret like that, I mean, impressive.”
A short while later, Meghan asked one of her crew members, “Isn’t that the name of that flower? Hawthorn?” And indeed, she was corrected.
Cue the giggles between the two.
Setting confusion aside, it’s worth mentioning that Harry, Meghan’s spouse, earlier expressed their stance on growing their family. He indicated that welcoming their two children was nothing less than “extraordinary.
The Duke of Sussex expressed his opinion during the Invictus Games in February, as reported by The Mirror, saying, “I believe one or two children might be enough for us – I definitely hold this view. I know some individuals who have five children. To them, I simply say, ‘That’s on you!’
He commented that raising children is an incredible experience, one filled with daily and weekly adventures as they continuously grow and transform.
It turns out, as for their two children, Harry revealed that he’s discovering new things daily. “The questions they ask, the experiences, and the challenges they present are truly wonderful,” he disclosed. “It’s fantastic.” (In this paraphrase, I aimed to maintain the original meaning while making it sound more conversational and easy to read.)
Furthermore, it’s worth noting that Harry and Meghan have often spoken about parenthood in the past. Delve deeper for some heartwarming quotes they’ve shared…
In response to a question in 2015 about Princess Charlotte’s birth making him consider settling down, he said to Sky News, “I believe you can’t rush such matters. They’ll occur when they’re meant to.” He further added, “While I deeply desire children now, there’s an established procedure that needs to be followed.
In the past, Meghan Markle also bought a Cartier French Tank watch thinking about her future child. She shared with Hello! in 2015 that when she learned Suits was renewed for our third season, which seemed like an incredible achievement at the time, she decided to treat herself and purchased the two-tone version of this watch. She had it engraved “To M.M. From M.M.” on the back, intending to give it to her daughter someday.
The topic of fatherhood, similar to marriage, has followed closely the younger son of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana for quite some time. In his own words, “There have been instances throughout my life, particularly during foreign tours, when I think, ‘I’d love to have children now.’ On the other hand, there are moments when I hesitate, thinking, ‘No need for kids!’ There’s no urgency. At times, I’ve even contemplated that having children might not be for me,” he shared with People in May 2016, just before meeting his future spouse.
In 2017, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their engagement and granted their first joint interview. It was only natural that the subject of children came up. “Absolutely”, said Prince Harry, “I believe we should take things one step at a time, and ideally, we’ll start our family in the not-too-distant future,” he added with Meghan smiling by his side.
Meghan expressed it as a magical experience when she became a mother upon Archie’s birth. She found it truly astonishing and, to put it simply, she has the best two men by her side, which makes her incredibly content.
After Archie was born in May 2019, Harry expressed, “This experience has been more incredible than I could have ever imagined. The strength and capability of women never ceases to amaze me. My partner and I are overjoyed and deeply thankful for the love and support we’ve received from everyone. It’s all been truly amazing, so we wanted to share this happiness with everyone.
During a speech at the National Youth Mentoring Summit in 2019, Harry took some time to consider the valuable lessons he’s gained since becoming a parent. He emphasized that he was particularly struck by the impact of unrecognized role models. There might be someone in the audience who doesn’t realize they are being admired and are influencing others to become kinder, better, more successful, and more influential. As a father, Harry now understands that his son will always watch his actions, learn from his behavior, and possibly even follow in his footsteps.
During a speaking event in 2020, Prince Harry expressed that our child holds the top spot as our greatest concern. After tending to our family, our focus shifts to our work, which becomes the second priority. He added that we’re making every effort to contribute positively and help create a more compassionate world.
Harry and Meghan discovered a positive aspect during the coronavirus pandemic thanks to baby Archie. In October 2020, Meghan expressed that having more time at home allowed them to witness their son grow, as otherwise they would have been traveling and working extensively elsewhere. She shared that missing these moments due to external engagements would have been regrettable. Instead, they’ve enjoyed quality family time together.
Harry remarked, “We shared the moments of Archie’s first steps, his first runs, his first tumbles, everything in between.
In May 2021, during Global Citizen’s VAX Live: The Concert to Reunite the World special, Meghan made a rare appearance on television. As a former actress, she took the opportunity to discuss her impending pregnancy and expressed her enthusiasm for raising a daughter. Back then, she shared, “My spouse and I are overjoyed at the prospect of welcoming a daughter soon. We share this joy with countless other families worldwide.” She also emphasized that when they thought about their daughter, they thought of all the young women and girls globally who deserved the chance and support to guide us into the future.
She mentioned, “Our current choices and actions will shape their future leadership, leading toward a tomorrow that’s prosperous, fair, and kind for everyone involved.
As a loyal supporter, I had the delightful opportunity to momentarily appear in my spouse’s Apple TV+ series alongside the esteemed Oprah Winfrey, titled “The Me You Can’t See”. During this captivating experience, I subtly honored my expanding family by donning a shirt emblazoned with the heartwarming message, “Raising the Future.
On June 4th, their little girl, Lili, was born, a joy beyond words. They expressed their gratitude on their Archewell Foundation page, saying, “She is more than we could have ever hoped for, and we are deeply moved by the love and prayers we’ve received from around the world. We appreciate your ongoing kindness and support as we cherish this special time in our family.
On the 8th of June, 2021, Meghan is set to publish her debut children’s book titled “The Bench“. This book offers a unique perspective on fatherhood from a mother’s viewpoint. In a press statement released in May, she mentioned that the story originated from a poem she wrote for her partner on Father’s Day, which followed Archie’s birth. The poem eventually evolved into this heartwarming narrative.
As a dedicated advocate, I penned a heartfelt letter to Honorable Representative Nancy Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer in October 2021, expressing my unwavering support for implementing mandated parental leave in the United States. During that time, I found myself brimming with joy yet grappling with overwhelming emotions as I navigated the challenges of welcoming a new addition to our family amidst the ongoing pandemic. Hospitals, schools, and other establishments were far from functioning as usual, making the experience even more daunting.
Just like many parents, we were fortunate enough to avoid the difficult dilemma of either staying at home during the crucial early months with our baby or returning to work. We had the opportunity to bring our baby home, enabling us to dedicate all our time and resources to our children and family during that vital (and significant) period. This choice allowed us to bypass the daily challenges of balancing childcare, work, and healthcare that so many families face.
Meghan further emphasized, “Nobody’s family should be compelled to make such difficult choices. Every family deserves the ability to both provide for their livelihood and tend to their child (or a relative, or themselves, as a complete family leave policy would allow).
In simple terms, on April 2022’s TODAY show, Harry explained that combining his work-at-home responsibilities with parenting proved to be nearly impossible.
During our Zoom meetings, Archie disrupts more than anyone else, according to him. Not only does he interrupt frequently, but he does so quite a bit, which is a noteworthy point.
Harry observed that his son already carried a hint of his own subtle wit. “I strive to maintain that trait,” he remarked. “I believe that the playfulness is what adds zest to life.
Meghan admitted she was concerned for her—and everybody else’s—kids in the age of social media.
During a discussion at the Archewell Foundation Parents’ Summit on Mental Wellness in the Digital Age (which took place in October 2023 as part of Project Healthy Minds’ World Mental Health Day), she expressed that being a mom ranks as the most significant aspect of her life-with the exception, of course, of her role as Harry’s wife. She conveyed this by pointing to Harry.
She continued by expressing, “Indeed, I consider ourselves lucky as our kids are still quite young, so the situation isn’t imminent for us. However, it’s hard not to feel anxious about how things are evolving, knowing that we’ll have to face these changes in the near future.
As a parent, Meghan reflected on the idea that “life moves quickly, with each day feeling lengthy, yet the years passing swiftly.” Echoing this sentiment, she went on to say, “We are all influenced by the digital realm and social media. What we all truly crave is a sense of safety.
During a visit to Lightway Academy in Abuja, Nigeria, in May 2024, Meghan told a group of kindergarteners that her daughter Lili is very small compared to them. Lili is almost three years old now, and a while ago, she looked at Meghan and said, “Mommy, I see myself in you.
Meghan remarked that she took Meghan’s words quite figuratively. However, she held onto those statements in an entirely distinct manner. She felt, ‘Indeed, I recognize myself in you, and you recognize yourself in me.’
