Avengers: Doomsday Star Doesn’t Know What The Movie Is About (But I’m Not Worried About It)

In a sneak peek, an actor from Marvel Studios’ upcoming film titled “Avengers: Doomsday,” scheduled for release in 2026, shared some insights into the extent of his knowledge about the story and plotline. Among more than half a dozen movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) expected to premiere over the coming years, “Doomsday” is among the most highly anticipated films, following closely behind “Avengers: Secret Wars.” Given the studios’ reputation for maintaining secrecy, it’s no wonder that details about this eagerly awaited sequel remain scarce.

As a die-hard Marvel fan and movie critic, I am thrilled to share my perspective on stepping back into the iconic boots of Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler for the 2026 installment of the Avengers saga, “Avengers: Doomsday.” This will mark my second time donning the role, following my initial portrayal in 2003’s X-Men sequel, X2.

After a nearly two-decade hiatus, I found myself once again embracing the unique challenge of bringing this blue-skinned mutant to life on the silver screen. Needless to say, the experience has been profoundly different and incredibly rewarding.

While discussing Season 4 of “The Traitors” with Gold Derby, Cumming shared that he filmed the entire production in seclusion on set. He also revealed Marvel’s practices of using pseudonyms for characters and extensive use of green screens and digital face replacements. Additionally, he hinted that a potential spoiler he thought he had revealed might have been incorrect.

I worked on the entire film all alone, using plenty of green screens and face replacement technology. The characters were even given false names, so I often didn’t know who I was acting with. I caused quite a stir online when I said something once, but to be honest, I might have misunderstood what I was talking about.

Originally, Cumming hinted at a confrontation between Nightcrawler and Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic, potentially revealing an anticipated X-Men vs. Fantastic Four battle in the movie “Doomsday”. However, based on his recent statements, it appears there might have been some discrepancy between his memory of the events and what truly transpired.

In the upcoming movie “Avengers: Doomsday,” set for release on December 18, 2026, Sean Cumming is among the 27 actors confirmed to join forces. This film marks the fifth Avengers installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the first one since “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019. The ensemble cast will confront Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, who is scheming to push the multiverse towards a potentially catastrophic collapse, although the specifics of his plans remain undisclosed.

Why Avengers: Doomsday Filming Process Is Not So Scary

As a devoted fan, I must admit that learning about Cumming’s filming experience for “Avengers: Doomsday” raised a bit of concern, especially given the news that the subsequent two “Avengers” movies have been pushed back to December 2026 and 2027. However, upon reflection, it seems this approach isn’t too far removed from Marvel Studios’ past tactics. In fact, they’ve demonstrated a knack for keeping us on our toes with their release strategies. Here’s hoping the wait will be worth it!

To ensure plot twists remain unspoiled, particularly for major Marvel productions like those on the scale of “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” the studio adopts rigorous measures to guard sensitive information about the storyline. This is especially noticeable in movies with large ensembles such as these two blockbusters, where surprise elements like unexpected character interactions and chaotic battles can be quite impactful upon initial screenings.

At the moment, only a handful of vague details about the plot of “Avengers: Doomsday” have found their way into public knowledge through whispers and articles. It’s also anticipated that the roster of characters will significantly increase, as stars such as Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, and the majority of the original Avengers haven’t been officially announced for appearances in the film yet.
