X-Men: Apocalypse Actor Is Campaigning To Return For The MCU (And The Character Totally Deserves It)

For several decades, comic book genres have held a strong appeal, with the X-Men movie series being a notable example before the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) emerged. This long-running series, available for streaming with a Disney+ subscription, includes the reboot titled “First Class.” One actor from X-Men: Apocalypse has shown interest in reprising their role, and I firmly believe that character deserves such a comeback.

Enthusiasts who have followed the Marvel films sequentially over many years have eagerly anticipated the inclusion of the X-Men into the same universe. The purchase of 20th Century Fox by Disney has provided this opportunity, and several original cast members are featured in the roster for Avengers: Doomsday. Actor Ben Hardy portrayed Angel in Apocalypse, and recently shared with ComicBook his enthusiasm for that character. In his own words:

I really enjoyed it. The part in the movie was quite limited, but among X-Men fans, I believe this is accurate – I feel like there’s a lot more to delve into with that character. It hasn’t been fully explored on screen yet.

As a movie critic, I find myself captivated by the intriguing on-screen journey of Angel, a character with a rich comic book background. Although he’s been a founding member of the X-Men, his screen time has been limited, appearing merely in The Last Stand and Apocalypse, portrayed by Ben Foster and Ben Hardy consecutively. This suggests that there are still untapped aspects of Angel’s past and character development that remain unexplored on the silver screen.

Disney+, where you can stream the X-Men franchise alongside Marvel Cinematic Universe content, offers plans starting at $9.99 per month for its new ad-supported plan. If you prefer an ad-free experience, the monthly fee is $15.99 or take advantage of a 16% discount and pay $159.99 annually upfront. Check out this deal!

In the television series “Apocalypse,” Angel was portrayed as one of the main antagonist’s horsemen and received his iconic metallic wings as a present. However, Angel met his end during the final confrontation. It’s important to note that this isn’t definitive for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). In a subsequent interview, Ben Hardy hinted at a potential return to the role of Angel.

Maybe it could be me, or someone else, but either way, I’m eager to take on this project since I’ve done extensive research on that character and am excited to bring it to life on screen. However, I’m currently waiting for a call, so if you could help generate some buzz, it would at least give me the chance to be considered, please.

Have you picked up on it, Kevin Feige? The plans regarding MCU’s X-Men film remain a complete enigma, making this an opportune moment for Hardy to reach out to Marvel’s decision-makers. If the studio intends to introduce the original comic book team, they would likely need an actor to embody the winged hero.

Previously mentioned, several original cast members from the X-Men series will reprise their roles in Avengers: Doomsday. Specifically, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Alan Cumming, Kelsey Grammer, and Rebecca Romijn are coming back. While it’s not yet clear how they’ll fit into the plot, long-time fans are excited about this casting announcement.

The X-Men films are available for streaming on Disney+, while Avengers: Doomsday is set to premiere in theaters on December 18th of the coming year, being included in the 2025 film lineup.
