Dragon Ball, as a series, is renowned for crafting some of the scariest villains in the realm of anime. Characters like Frieza, Cell, Majin Buu, and Broly were made terrifying by committing deeds that left viewers shivering. In light of honoring some of the most wicked characters created by Akira Toriyama, it seems fitting to delve into the inhumane actions perpetrated by these formidable shonen villains. It’s no secret that their past deeds made it simple to gather examples for this top ten list.
King Piccolo Blows Up East City
Frequently, the initial Dragon Ball series may get overshadowed by its successors, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super. However, it’s worth noting that if any character could be considered the main antagonist for the original series, it would be Piccolo the Demon King. Making his grand entrance by claiming to rule the world, he promptly released prisoners and threatened daily city destruction unless his terms were met. Despite having a power level in the hundreds, this malevolent Piccolo demonstrated an alarming ability to annihilate entire surroundings.
Nappa & Vegeta’s Reign of Destruction
Upon teaming up with Demon King Piccolo, Nappa and Vegeta made a destructive entrance onto Earth, leaving a trail of devastation in their wake. Given that Nappa’s power level surpassed the original Dragon Ball antagonist significantly, the destruction they caused was on a much grander scale. This significant event occurred both in the manga and anime series, with the anime adding unique scenes of the Saiyans annihilating planets as they advanced towards Earth. Without a doubt, their debut on Dragon Ball Z left a lasting impact on the anime world.
Frieza Blows Up Planet Vegeta
In the annals of Dragon Ball lore, Frieza’s devastating attack on Planet Vegeta stands out as a profoundly evil act. By destroying their home and effectively wiping out the Saiyans, including Goku and Vegeta’s kin, Frieza perpetrated an atrocity that shook the very core of the universe. Despite their less than noble nature, the complete elimination of their species was a horrendous act nonetheless. Interestingly, Goku managed to survive due to being sent to Earth by his parents, whereas Bardock and Gine did not share such fortune. It wasn’t until after Frieza made his first appearance that we learned he was responsible for Vegeta’s destruction. This despicable act solidified Frieza as one of the most formidable antagonists in anime history.
Cell Kills Ginger Town
In Dragon Ball Z, unlike characters such as Frieza and Majin Buu, Cell’s debut was surprising, appearing suddenly without any prior hint or build-up. His ominous presence could be felt even in the background as Dr. Gero’s creation amassed power by ruthlessly siphoning energy from ordinary people. Fortunately, Piccolo was present to utilize his recent fusion with Kami effectively, but the destruction caused had already taken place. After escaping from the Namekian, Cell continued his violent reign of terror.
Broly Destroys South Galaxy
In the eighth movie of the Dragon Ball Z series, an incredibly wicked action by Broly often goes unnoticed but is undoubtedly among the most malevolent deeds he performed during his original stint. The reason the Z-Fighters united to confront the Legendary Super Saiyan was primarily due to the destruction of the Southern Galaxy, which Broly effortlessly brought about. Although Broly exhibited his evil potential during the events of the eighth film in the sequel series, his initial deed laid the groundwork for future events.
Buu Wipes Out Humanity
After escaping from his pink imprisonment, Majin Buu transformed from a massive bulky antagonist to a lean danger due to combining his beneficial and detrimental aspects. In search of new excitement, Buu appeared on Kami’s lookout, causing Piccolo to temporarily step aside while Goten and Trunks practiced the fusion dance. Eager to exterminate humanity, believing they could be resurrected using the dragon balls, Buu proceeded to do so. However, instead of a drawn-out process, he wiped them out in a single destructive move. One of the most terrifying energy attacks ever shown in the series, the “Human Extinction Attack,” launched an immense number of energy blasts that pursued and ended their targets’ lives.
Kid Buu Destroys The Earth
In an effort to surpass his own previous exploits, the arrival of Kid Buu prompted him to launch an offensive aimed at wiping out the human race that had escaped his grasp in his earlier form. Demonstrating himself to be the most powerful manifestation of Majin Buu on this side of the one who faced Vegitto, Kid Buu swiftly dispatched characters like Gohan, Goten, Trunks, and Piccolo with his initial attack. Although he couldn’t speak coherently, Kid Buu proved to be a formidable final antagonist in the Dragon Ball Z anime.
Androids 17 & 18 Destroy Future Trunks’ Timeline
In the world of Dragon Ball Z, Androids 17 and 18 might have eventually turned into heroes due to the impact of the Z-Fighters. However, their counterparts from the future were incredibly malevolent. They found immense joy in slaughtering countless humans, often tormenting Gohan and Trunks during their rampage. This period of terror was particularly abhorrent not just because of its cruelty, but also due to the enjoyment the android siblings derived from it. The death of future Gohan was already heinous, but Dragon Ball Z managed to generate an intense hatred towards these androids that few other anime villains could achieve.
Goku Black Destroys Future Trunks’ Timeline
In both Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super, Future Trunks had nothing but bad luck. After vanquishing Android 17 and 18, Cell, and Majin Buu, a new villain named Goku Black appeared, carrying on where Dr. Gero’s creations had stopped. Not only did this villain annihilate numerous humans, but he also managed to harm Bulma. As a result, Trunks was forced to retreat, only to return in the subsequent series. Granted, Goku Black and Zamasu’s “Mortal Elimination Plan” was malevolent enough on its own, even if they failed to implement it completely.
The Xenos Destroy Universes
The unexpected pair causing the greatest trouble on this list are the two Xenos. Originally, Universe 7 had just one Xeno, but another was acquired from Future Trunks’ timeline, making life harder for the Z-Fighters. Goku’s wish for the Tournament of Power and the Xeno duo’s interest in watching fights escalated the battle’s scale. The Xenos eliminated entire universes with a mere snap of their fingers, which was an incredibly wicked act. Although all those killed by the Xenos and their twin were revived, it’s estimated that trillions of lives were lost in this action, making it more evil than known villains like Frieza, Cell, or Majin Buu.
