It’s been some time since Ghost Story Games has shared updates about their upcoming sci-fi immersive shooter, Judas. Earlier this year, director Ken Levine mentioned that it’s proving to be significantly more challenging than BioShock to develop. Yet, there’s a fresh development update available on the PlayStation Blog now, with Levine hinting at more regular news releases without revealing too many details about the game itself.
In the aftermath of its largest playtest, Judas has achieved a major developmental achievement called Villainy. As players journey through the Mayflower, they’ll meet three key figures – Tom, Queen Nefertiti, and Hope, collectively referred to as the Big 3. Players have the option to form alliances with these characters; however, disregarding one will transform them into antagonists who acquire additional powers, making the game more challenging for the player.
An illustrative instance is the Rent-A-Deputy, a mechanical, humanoid horse-like figure, which may engage in combat if Tom is irritated. Notably, there are additional elements of heightened danger and personalized traits that will be kept confidential for the time being.
Levine praises the Nemesis system from “Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor” as his “personal favorite,” but in Judas, you’ll have a more intimate encounter with the Main Three characters. Our aim is to make losing one of them feel like losing a friend. We plan to explore this dynamic and want your choice to be incredibly tough. The Main Three will all vie for your affection and engagement.
They can offer bribes, rescue you in conflicts, backstab others, and reveal hidden truths to you. However, at some point, it’s up to you to determine who is trustworthy and who isn’t. Meanwhile, they’ll be observing your moves and offering opinions about your gameplay.
The game titled “Judas” is currently being crafted for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC platforms. However, as of now, there’s no fixed release date available. Developer Dan Levine mentioned that they aren’t ready to lock down a specific date just yet, as they aim to prevent any potential need to adjust the release date after it has been announced due to their tendency to run over schedule. Keep an eye out for future announcements and updates about the game in the meantime.
