Resident Evil Requiem Will “Increase the Horror Feeling” Over Village’s House Beneviento

Lately, the Resident Evil series, notably since Resident Evil 7, has been leaning heavily into horror elements. However, it appears that Capcom is aiming to ramp up the fear factor even more with the impending release of Resident Evil Requiem. In a chat with GamesRadar, director Koshi Nakanishi hinted at the upcoming game’s scary nature, going so far as to liken it to the chilling House Beneviento segment from Resident Evil Village.

Nakanishi commented, “There’s definitely a resemblance to that part, I must say. Each Resident Evil game tends to include independent sections where you might not have your familiar arsenal of weapons. By doing so, we can heighten the sense of horror.

In reference to Nakanishi’s comments, he’s drawing parallels between the initial sections of Resident Evil 7, which emphasize terror and discovery over puzzle-solving and action, and House Beneviento from Resident Evil Village. What connects these early parts of Resident Evil 7 and House Beneviento is that the player lacked resources to defend themselves against the looming dread in dark corners and around every turn. Instead, they were designed to instill a sense of powerlessness.

Just as Resident Evil 7 does, it appears that Resident Evil Requiem will begin with an immediate horror scene before transitioning into the familiar elements of the series. However, Nakanishi has mentioned that the frightening aspects of Requiem won’t simply be a repetition of what was presented in House Beneviento.

Nakanishi clarified that they intentionally emphasized the horror aspect from the outset of the game to align with Grace’s character, someone who finds herself unprepared and unaccustomed to such a harrowing predicament.

As a fellow gaming enthusiast, let me share some exciting news about our upcoming project. We’re not just remaking House Beneviento; we’re infusing it with fresh elements that elevate the experience. For instance, the defensive mechanism you used against the creature in the demo is just the beginning. The creature itself, its design, and the thrilling sensation of being hunted by it in this particular section are what I believe take the concept of the claustrophobic, unarmed character segments to a whole new level.

Through leaked gameplay footage of the “Resident Evil Requiem” playable demo from Gamescom 2025, we were granted a sneak peek into some nerve-wracking early scenes. The video showcased a game sequence where the main character, Grace, is attempting to flee from Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center. During this segment, we caught glimpses of the creature that’s hot on her heels, and noticed that Grace will need to rely heavily on her available resources to navigate through the hospital without getting caught by the monster and ensnared in a deadly trap.

The game titled “Resident Evil Requiem” is being prepared for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It’s set to arrive on February 27, 2026. To learn more about this upcoming title, be sure to watch the Gamescom 2025 trailer for “Resident Evil Requiem” and read our analysis.
