The Boys Just Eased My Biggest Season 5 Fear (& It May Debunk a Homelander Theory)

Anticipation for Season 5 of “The Boys” got a significant lift, courtesy of its creator and head writer, Eric Kripke. Although it’s not scheduled to appear on Prime Video until around 2026, we do have confirmation that the fifth season will be the last for the series. This decision was purely creative, with Kripke having a predetermined plan in mind. However, this doesn’t mark the end of the franchise, as spin-offs are in development, including a prequel titled “Vought Rising“, led by Jensen Ackles, which is set in the 1950s.

Prior to that, the second season of Gen V is set to air, which could potentially pose a challenge for The Boys. I found the first season to be an impressive expansion of the universe, but its continued existence, along with the possibility of additional spinoffs, seems at odds with what The Boys aims to accomplish. As a satire of superhero media, particularly the MCU, there’s a concern that it may become a caricature of what it parodies. Could it end up emulating the MCU, requiring viewers to brush up on prior installments before each new release?

My concerns about Gen V Season 2 specifically stem from its apparent setup for The Boys Season 5, but recent comments from Kripke have helped ease some of those apprehensions.

The Boys Season 5 Won’t Be Too Reliant On Gen V

According to an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kripke confirmed that the happenings in Gen V’s second season will significantly impact The Boys’ fifth season. Given the trailers, this is not entirely unexpected, as we can see that Homelander‘s power play for Supes continues, while also establishing a resistance against him. Moreover, characters from the original series like Starlight are expected to appear, which has raised some questions about how closely the two storylines will intertwine and whether they will maintain their individual identities.

Kripke is cautious about the risk of mixing characters from different universes too much, as he believes it can be confusing for viewers. He expressed this by saying: “I’m well aware that Gen V should focus on its own characters and The Boys should focus on theirs. While there might be occasional collaborations or support, it’s misleading and not ideal if, after choosing to watch Boba Fett, you end up watching the Mandalorian for several episodes instead. I don’t want to do that because we have separate stories to tell in each series.

The creator effectively tackles one of the problems in “The Book of Boba Fett” while also handling the concerns for “Gen V” and “The Boys“. Given that these two shows share a universe, some degree of interconnection is expected; it would seem unusual if Homelander’s situation didn’t influence events, or if the powerful young Supes didn’t engage elsewhere. However, this connection must be handled delicately and within bounds. Kripke is undoubtedly correct that “Gen V” should primarily focus on its characters, and even more so, “The Boys” should concentrate on its own characters, particularly given it’s the final season.

Does This Mean We Won’t See Homelander vs. Marie?

One intriguing speculation for The Boys Season 5 is that Homelander could face off against Marie Moreau once more. Remember, this Godolkin student left quite an impression on the villain – and us – when she survived a direct hit of his heat vision to her chest. Such a potential re-match could turn out to be more intense, gory, and captivating. And it seems like Gen V Season 2 is already laying the groundwork for this showdown. The previews hint at Marie being referred to as a “chosen one,” potentially validating suspicions that she might possess powers even greater than Homelander’s own.

With Starlight enlisting Marie for a crucial mission and considering the context, it’s not hard to imagine theories about Marie battling Homelander, possibly even being the one to ultimately vanquish him. Actress Jaz Sinclair voices this idea in her interview with Kripke, stating: “I’ve always wished they would write me to defeat Homelander.

It’s unlikely that Marie will be the one to kill Homelander in Season 5 of The Boys, as it seems unusual for an actor to discuss such plans a year ahead. Kripke’s comments strengthen this idea. While Marie could still play a crucial role in Season 5, her sudden emergence as the main villain’s downfall in the final season contradicts the series’ narrative direction as outlined by the showrunner.

Marie is an exceptional character, and I’m eagerly anticipating the exploration of her powers, especially their gruesomely vivid manifestations. A confrontation with Homelander once again would be exciting, potentially deepening his doubts about his own abilities (as hinted in Season 4). However, if Homelander is to be eliminated permanently, it seems more fitting for it to be a character deeply rooted in the main storyline of The Boys and Homelander’s journey, rather than one from a spinoff.

As a die-hard fan excitedly counting down the days, I’m thrilled to share that my personal favorite series, Gen V, will finally return for its second season right here on Prime Video come September 17, 2025!

And if that weren’t already fantastic news, The Boys are gearing up for their fifth season in the following year of 2026. I can hardly contain my anticipation for both of these blockbuster events!
