Two of Star Wars’ Best Villains Will Reunite in Disney+ Series

Although it’s been argued that Disney flooded the market with too much new Star Wars content lately, the Star Wars universe has blossomed into fascinating realms during the past ten years. The arrival of Disney+, for instance, provided a platform for diverse storytelling and character development, with numerous fresh faces gracing our screens. Notably, the appeal of Star Wars: Ahsoka lay in bringing back beloved characters from Star Wars Rebels, but it also introduced some compelling new figures who quickly captured our attention. For instance, Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati, the formidable antagonists from Season 1, left a lasting impression on viewers. Although they were separated at the end of the season, fans can look forward to seeing these two characters reunited in Season 2.

In an interview with The Direct, Ivanna Sakhno (from Shin Hati) expressed her enthusiasm about working alongside Rory McCann, who’s stepping into the role of Baylan in Ahsoka Season 2 following Ray Stevenson’s passing. “I spend a lot of time with Rory these days,” she shared, “and he’s truly a joy to collaborate with. I won’t go into details about his performance, but let me tell you, he’s a real gem for our team. Honestly, there couldn’t have been a more suitable actor for this role.

Ivanna Sakhno’s Comments Show Why Baylan Skoll Needed to be Recast in Ahsoka Season 2

In a sad turn of events, Stevenson had unfortunately passed away prior to the debut of Ahsoka’s first season in 2023, leading to speculation about what might happen to the character Baylan Skoll moving forward. The season finale left his storyline open-ended, as after separating from Shin, Baylan embarked on a new journey and stumbled upon statues of the gods from Mortis on Peridea’s surface. Given this development seemed meant to provide plot hooks for future episodes, it became crucial for Lucasfilm to secure a new actor to portray Baylan, as it would have been disconcerting if his character were suddenly absent from the series.

Besides his personal quest to discover the secrets of the Force and initiate a new era beyond the conventional Jedi/Sith dynamic, it seems Baylan still has a role in the narrative of his former apprentice, Shin. This unexpected turn is intriguing as the two characters diverged significantly at the end of Ahsoka Season 1, with opposing paths: while Shin opted to join the Empire, Baylan refused. It’ll be captivating to witness how these contrasting journeys intersect once more.

It could be that Shin experiences a transformation and recognizes the merit in Baylan’s path, deciding to follow suit. Alternatively, Ahsoka Season 2 might delve into flashbacks, with Shin reflecting on crucial moments from her training as she navigates her next steps.

Regardless of how Baylan and Shin end up meeting again, it would be wonderful to witness their reunion. These characters, who have served as some of Star Wars‘ most intriguing adversaries, stand out due to Baylan’s distinctive viewpoint on the Force and cosmic events. Characters such as Baylan and Shin highlight the merits of creating a series like Ahsoka; Dave Filoni and his team can delve deeper into specific aspects than what’s feasible in films, enriching elements like the Force and the Jedi/Sith divide to make them more comprehensive.

The second season of Ahsoka is currently being made, however, the release date hasn’t been announced yet. When Lucasfilm begins to share sneak peeks for the series comeback, glimpses of Baylan will definitely catch our attention. It would be thrilling to catch a glimpse of his story’s direction, and it’ll also be intriguing to see McCann portray the character. He’s expected to bring his unique interpretation to the role while still respecting its roots. Fingers crossed that McCann might have more Star Wars roles in the future, possibly even in Filoni’s New Republic film.
