Tonight on Coronation Street, Abi Webster (played by Sally Carman) faces heartache because Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) may be attracted to another local character.
Initially, Carl made his debut on the ITV soap this year, during a scene where he was brought together with half-siblings Debbie (played by Sue Devaney) and Kevin (Michel Le Vell). However, things took an unexpected turn as he developed a romantic relationship with his brother’s wife, Abi.
On the latest episode airing on Friday, Abi going away for a vacation with Kevin and the rest of the family leaves Carl’s romantic entanglements further complicated. During the day, he finds himself involved in a heated rendezvous with James Bailey (Jason Callender) in his hotel room.
It’s common knowledge that Tracy Barlow (played by Kate Ford) has been blackmailing Carl regarding his affair with Abi. With his recent actions, does he dare to potentially lose it all?
Actor Howard Carl expressed his take on the recent turn of events: “Carl relishes life’s risks, he is a pleasure-seeker and a free soul, he finds appeal in people regardless of their gender, and if he desires someone, he pursues them without much regard for the potential outcomes of his actions.
He commented: “He’s annoyed because Abi left with Kevin, leaving him feeling restless. To divert his mind, he pursues the connection he feels with James. After all, there seems to be a spark there.
Tracy was attempting to entice him as well, but he’s not naive – he understands such a move could be risky. Conversely, James is less complex and far more entertaining.
In the parking lot of Freshco’s, all the way back in April, was where Abi and Carl initially crossed paths. It was then that Carl made a slightly sarcastic comment about Abi appearing to be in less than the best of moods.
However, Abi promptly corrected him by informing him about Kevin’s cancer treatment and sharing her own struggles after the passing of Mason Radcliffe, culminating in a physical altercation where she struck him.
Abi swiftly set him straight, disclosing that Kevin was battling cancer and recounting her recent loss of Mason Radcliffe before resorting to violence by hitting him.
In the afternoon, Abi met Carl, who turned out to be Kevin and Debbie’s younger sibling, only to recognize him with a shock as the individual she had encountered in Freshco’s parking lot earlier.
Initially, Carl showed signs of being smitten by Abi, but at first, Abi hesitated to cause pain to Kevin.
Alternatively,
Carl found himself drawn to Abi, whereas Abi began by avoiding the prospect of hurting Kevin.
Upon learning in July that Kevin had been deceiving her about his health condition, she ultimately yielded to temptation and ended up sleeping with Carl.
