However, the most sought-after fantasy anime on Crunchyroll isn’t any of these popular choices; instead, it’s a delightful romance series that is surprisingly underappreciated. This series gained such massive popularity that it was brought back for a second season after seven long years! The new season is set to premiere this fall. Interestingly, while other fantasy anime usually get renewals within the same year as their latest season, fans of “Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits” had to wait even longer than those eagerly anticipating more “Black Clover.” A whopping seven years elapsed between Seasons 1 and 2 of “Kakuriyo.

Based on a recent announcement by @kakuriyo_anime on X, the second season of “Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits” is set to premiere on October 1st, 2025. Crunchyroll has obtained the rights to air this series in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, India, and other regions. Although the specific broadcast times are still undisclosed, it’s expected that the series will become available on Crunchyroll shortly following its Japanese release. Additionally, the new season will feature Nao Toyama as both the opening and ending theme artist. Toyama, who performed the opening for Season 1, will be reprising her role for Season 2, singing both the opening theme “Toryanse” and the ending theme “Namida no Recipe.

As a dedicated fan of shojo and josei anime, I was thrilled when “Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast for Spirits” graced our screens back in 2018. However, like many beloved series before it, the dreaded no-second-season curse seemed to claim it too. But, six years later, in a stunning turn of events, the anime was resurrected for a second season! In May 2024, fans worldwide rejoiced as Gonzo, the studio behind the series, announced the long-awaited Season 2 of “Kakuriyo”.

In an interview, Shinichiro Ishikawa, the president and CEO of Gonzo, revealed that it was the anime’s impressive overseas viewership that ultimately led to this exciting revival. It was Crunchyroll who championed for a second season of “Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits”, even after six years had passed, as Ishikawa shared in his interview with Natalie Comic.

I, for one, am beyond grateful for the opportunity to return to the captivating world of Kakuriyo and eagerly await Season 2!

Although often categorized as a series for women, Kakuriyo, surprisingly, gained widespread popularity among both genders. And it’s easy to understand why! As Ishikawa suggests, the show’s allure stems from its universal appeal, mirroring elements that Western audiences find captivating – such as an enchanting fantasy backdrop and exquisitely animated, mouthwatering Japanese cuisine. Indeed, this assessment rings true.

Kakuriyo offers a similar enchantment found in well-liked anime series focused on cooking in fantasy settings, such as Delicious in Dungeon and Campfire Cooking. It also shares an element of captivating, gradual supernatural romance, reminiscent of titles like Kamisama Kiss, Inuyasha, and Noragami.
