4 Superman Characters That Should Appear in the Next DCU Movie

In the realm of the DC Universe, I find myself immersed in a Superman-centric journey. Kicking off the franchise on the big screen was none other than Superman himself. Following his debut, the second theatrical film to grace our screens will feature Supergirl. Post that, another project helmed by James Gunn is slated, focusing on the expansive Super-Family, expanding upon the characters and narratives introduced in Superman. Despite the DC Extended Universe not delivering a second solo Superman title, it seems the DC Universe has chosen to make this Kryptonian the focal point of its cinematic blueprint.

The upcoming movie, steeped in Superman’s lore and yet to reveal its title, holds an air of mystery. But it seems that it could offer a platform for some beloved Superman comic characters to shine on the silver screen. If the DC Universe is fully embracing Superman’s mythology, then these four pivotal supporting characters from the comics should be featured in the next Superhero family tale.

1) Brainiac

Although Brainiac has been part of Superman’s comic book adventures since July 1958, he hasn’t made an appearance in any live-action theatrical film yet. This is quite surprising given that he’s featured in three different live-action TV series starring Superman, including the latest one called “Superman & Lois”. With Lex Luthor now established in the DC Universe, it seems fitting to introduce another major Superman adversary like Brainiac. A massive threat is necessary for the Super-Family to band together for a significant movie production. Could there be a more ominous herald of destruction than Brainiac?

Additionally, the extraterrestrial background of Brainiac could offer an intriguing contrast to Earth-bound adversary Lex Luthor for Superman, while also establishing a shared connection with this version of Supergirl. The benefits of introducing Brainiac in the upcoming DC Universe film featuring Superman and his companions are numerous and promising.

2) Mister Mxyzptlk

Casually mentioning inter-dimensional creatures like Imp in Superman’s storyline has paved the way for one of his most eccentric foes to emerge. Mr. Mxyzptlk may not have fit into the realistic portrayal of Superman that started the DC Extended Universe. But, considering the DC Universe’s quirky traits now, it wouldn’t be surprising if Mr. Mxyzptlk appeared to bother David Corenswet’s Superman and his team of powerful comrades.

As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, I can’t help but express my excitement about the prospect of Mister Mxyzptlk gracing the live-action screen for the very first time! Imagine the freshness and thrill of witnessing this mischievous character bring chaos to the DC Universe in an upcoming Super-Family movie. Just like a cat playing with its prey, it’s about time we had Superman face off against someone who revels in causing nothing but constant frustration for our heroes. Let the games begin!

3) Power Girl

As a cinephile deeply immersed in the DC Universe, I can’t help but ponder over the intriguing possibilities that the pocket universe of Lex Luthor in Superman and the utopian alternate dimension in Peacemaker Season 2 have subtly hinted at. One exhilarating consequence of this multiverse reality could be the arrival of Power Girl, a fierce alter-ego of Supergirl who’s been captivating comic book readers for nearly half a century. Introducing this heroine would serve as a testament to the boundless extent and limitless potential of the DC Multiverse, leaving audiences in awe at its sheer vastness.

Not only would it be inclusive to have more female characters, like Milly Alcock’s Supergirl, within the Super-Family, but also introducing Power Girl, who has captivated fans for ages in comic books and beyond, to the big screen seems long overdue. Why not focus a film on Superman and his Kryptonian allies, where Power Girl could truly shine?

4) Comet the Super-Horse

After Krypto’s successful debut and popular acclaim as the star of Superman, it’s high time for the DC Universe to unveil another extraordinary animal superhero from Superman lore. The newcomer in this case is Comet the Super-Horse, a former human who was transformed into a powerful horse with superpowers. This horse is loyal to Supergirl and has developed an intense affection for her, though he’s unable to express it due to being a horse. Comet is quite the peculiar character, reminiscent of the Silver Age of comics.

It would be thrilling to witness an unanticipated character like Comet appear in a big-budget movie. In this scenario, Comet’s emergence might echo that of Krypto, indicating that superpowers within the Super-Family are not exclusively human. Animals can also shape the world, after all. Furthermore, Comet’s close bond with Supergirl would mean that the film’s ensemble cast includes at least one character tied uniquely to her mythology. Given James Gunn’s track record of making popular animal superheroes, such as Rocket, King Shark, Lylla, and Krypto, it seems fitting for Comet to join the ranks in an upcoming standalone Superman movie within the DC Universe.

Superman is now playing in theaters.
