Pedro Pascal Landed Two DC Roles Before He Ended Up With Marvel

Pedro Pascal‘s work is hard to avoid when it comes to streaming services or going to the movie theater lately. In recent years, he has taken on roles such as Joel Miller in ‘The Last of Us’, Din Djarin in ‘The Mandalorian’, and General Acacius in ‘Gladiator II’. There are also smaller projects like ‘Materialists’, ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent’, and ‘Drive-Away Dolls’ on his resume, which may not have been box office hits but provided a platform for Pascal to demonstrate his impressive versatility. Interestingly, part of Pascal’s success can be attributed to genres he isn’t often linked with: superhero movies.

You can’t miss Pedro Pascal in many streaming shows or movies these days, as he has played significant roles in ‘The Last of Us’, ‘The Mandalorian’, and ‘Gladiator II’. He also has smaller projects like ‘Materialists’, ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent’, and ‘Drive-Away Dolls’ on his resume. These may not have been big hits at the box office, but they show off Pascal’s wide range. What’s surprising is that some of his success can be connected to genres he’s rarely associated with – superhero movies.

Without a doubt, it’s common knowledge now that Pascal is set to appear in Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Later on, he will reenact his character, Reed Richards, in Avengers: Doomsday, where he confronts his arch-nemesis, Doctor Doom. Before making a mark in the MCU, it’s worth recalling Pascal’s past work within superhero entertainment, including an undistributed performance from earlier on.

Pedro Pascal Was Nearly in Two Wonder Woman Projects

Pascal didn’t suddenly become a movie star; instead, he gradually made his way into the spotlight by taking on minor roles in popular TV shows such as “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, various “Law & Order” series, and “The Good Wife”. His efforts seemed to be rewarded in 2011 when he landed a role in an NBC pilot for a Wonder Woman series. Adrianne Palicki was set to play the lead character, while Pascal would portray Ed Indelicato, a police department liaison with connections in Los Angeles. Although this wasn’t a leading role, Pascal likely valued the opportunity. Unfortunately, NBC decided not to proceed with the project, sending one of its actors back to the competitive world of television production.

Despite missing out on the role of Indelicato, Pascal continued to persist and landed a part on HBO’s Game of Thrones. His performance as Oberyn Martell helped him shine in a competitive cast, and following the Mountain’s conclusion of his character, he advanced to more significant opportunities. He even received another invitation from DC while they were working on Wonder Woman 1984. Patty Jenkins and team sought Pascal for the eccentric businessman Maxwell Lord, who aimed to control the Dreamstone and alter the world. Although the 2020 sequel did not meet expectations, Pascal gave a captivating performance. Unfortunately, DC didn’t offer Pascal a leading role in his second chance, which Marvel would not repeat.

The MCU Will Never Be the Same After Pedro Pascal Arrives

In his third superhero appearance, Pascal finds himself smack dab in the heat of the action. Known for his intellect among Marvel Comics characters, Reed Richards seems set to make his live-action debut in “First Steps“. The main cast will clash with Silver Surfer and her overlord Galactus, who covets Earth as his next snack. Reed carries the burden of guilt for summoning the Devourer of Worlds, and it appears that matters won’t improve for him and his kin since they depart their universe at the end of “Thunderbolts*“. The Fantastic Four take a moral stand by reaching out to Earth’s strongest defenders. In “Doomsday“, everyone will strive to find common ground.

The lineup for the upcoming Avengers film is nothing to scoff at, and could potentially be daunting for Pascal. This is especially true given that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are joining the mix. However, it’s challenging to find another actor who might match the prowess of Robert Downey Jr., portraying Doctor Doom. After all, Pascal has made significant strides since being part of a canceled superhero series that would have kept him in the sidekick role as long as the show ran.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters on July 25, 2025.
