By this point, everyone’s familiar with its name, but is Hollow Knight: Silksong a sequel or an origin story instead?
This month, I can finally get my hands on the long-anticipated sequel from Team Cherry, following up on their 2017 Metroidvania hit, Hollow Knight. For those wondering if they should play the original game before diving into this new adventure, it’s worth noting that the games are set in a shared world with their own timelines. So, if you’re like me, eager to explore these intricate worlds, it might be best to start with the first Hollow Knight and then continue on your journey!
So, is Silksong a sequel? Is Silksong a prequel? Let’s get into it!
Is Hollow Knight: Silksong a sequel or prequel?
As confirmed by the developers at Team Cherry, Hollow Knight: Silksong is a follow-up game set after the conclusion of the original Hollow Knight.
Despite a considerable amount of guesswork surrounding the topic, reliable information has been hard to find online. However, it turns out that the source of the details was a now-removed blog post by Team Cherry.
Indeed, that particular blog post marked the unveiling of Silksong to the world. It announced, “Hollow Knight: Silksong, our second creation as Team Cherry, is the comprehensive sequel to Hollow Knight.
Initially, Silksong was conceived as downloadable content, but as it expanded and developed distinct characteristics, it grew beyond what could be contained in a DLC. Consequently, the creators made the choice to transform it into a full-fledged standalone game instead.
Incidentally, this is one of the many reasons why Silksong took so long to make.
Essentially, this confirms that Silksong is a follow-up to Hollow Knight, but the exact nature of their connection remains uncertain.
It’s yet unclear if Silksong continues immediately from where Hollow Knight ended or tells a different tale that expands on the original game’s events.
Let’s be patient and find out what Team Cherry has in store for us once their game officially releases this week.
