With Gears of War: Reloaded on the way, which Xbox 360 game would you like to see get rebuilt next? — Weekend discussion 💬

Hello everyone! It seems this week has been relatively quiet in terms of significant gaming news, given that we’re past the Summer Game Fest 2025 events.

On the other hand, I’ve been pondering over The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered and Gears of War: Reloaded lately. The former was released earlier this year, while the latter is set for August. It’s interesting to note that we have two popular Xbox 360 games being optimized for current-gen hardware within the same year.

Now, it’s worth mentioning that Gears of War: Reloaded was previously remastered for Xbox One back in 2015. However, it has sparked a thought about which other Xbox 360 games could benefit from a modern remaster and be easily accessible on the Xbox Series X|S.

Here are some ideas I’ve been thinking about, and afterwards, I’m really curious to know which games you’d like to see given a fresh coat of paint. What are your preferences?

Dragon Age: Origins

I can’t help but marvel at how Dragon Age: Origins, a gem in the world of video games, manages to blend a gripping dark fantasy narrative with sharp, humorous dialogue. It stands as one of BioWare’s crowning achievements, yet its visual appeal has not aged gracefully over time. Despite being backward compatible on contemporary Xbox consoles, it’s far from eye-catching.

PC gamers have a bit more leeway, but the game’s condition is so deteriorated that it requires heavy modification to run smoothly – Dragon Age: Origins, in its current state, is quite a challenge.

A full remaster or remake, addressing the myriad of issues and enhancing the graphics while preserving the timeless story and characters we adore would be nothing short of extraordinary. As a fan who appreciates the original’s charm, I eagerly await such an update.

Half-Life 2

Once upon a time, Valve was known for releasing numerous games, especially the popular The Orange Box package on Xbox 360. This collection included several games like Half-Life 2, its subsequent story episodes, and more. Even though Xbox 360 is backward compatible with it, you can’t buy The Orange Box bundle anymore. However, Valve has recently updated Half-Life 2 on PC with bug fixes and new graphics options. This leads me to speculate that we might see a remastered version of the game on consoles in the future. Fingers crossed!

The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth 2

Few exceptional real-time strategy (RTS) games have graced consoles, with The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth 2 being one of the rare exceptions. Developed by EA Los Angeles studio, it primarily revolved around the War in the North, enabling players to command armies consisting of Dwarves, Elves, Men, Goblins, Orcs, and Uruk-Hai.

Additional powers allowed for destructive capabilities, summoning terrifying creatures such as a dragon, the Watcher in the Water, or perhaps most frighteningly, Tom Bombadil. It was an engaging game that I invested countless hours into on my Xbox 360, particularly in its campaigns and multiplayer modes.

Regrettably, this game is no longer available for purchase anywhere, and it hasn’t been added to backward compatibility. Sorting out the rights would be a complex endeavor, but I eagerly anticipate the return of this RTS gem.

Mortal Kombat (2011)

Over the years, numerous Mortal Kombat games have emerged, each introducing new characters and concepts. Yet none of them have held as significant an impact on developer NetherRealm as the 2011 edition of Mortal Kombat, often called Mortal Kombat 9. This game served a dual purpose – it was both a reboot and a fresh installment in the series. It retold the storyline of the original trilogy while introducing innovative combos and finishers that expanded the limits of what a fighting game could offer.

Unfortunately, Mortal Kombat (2011) – also known as Mortal Kombat 9 – is no longer available for purchase from storefronts. However, it remains backward compatible on certain systems. Tracking down a physical copy of the game has become increasingly difficult with each passing year. I can’t help but wish for this game to be remastered and preserved for future generations to enjoy.

Singularity

At one point, game developer Raven Software ventured outside the Call of Duty series to create new titles, with Singularity being one of the most notable examples. This first-person shooter was unique in its exploration of manipulating time, allowing players to move between a 1950s alternate reality that intertwines with 2010. The timeline is fractured, and as players battle to stay alive, terrifying events are triggered.

Although not flawless, Singularity was incredibly imaginative, and I’d welcome its return. The game can be played on Windows PC, but it’s not available on Xbox.

This omission is particularly glaring and simple to rectify because Microsoft owns Activision and Raven Software, eliminating any need for rights negotiation.

What do you want to see?

Sure thing! Go ahead and take a look at my top choices for games I’d love to see return. Feel free to cast your vote for the game you’d most like to see remastered or remade. Alternatively, you can share which Xbox 360 game you personally would prefer from all the titles I mentioned!
