It seems the world has turned upside down, or perhaps it was always thus, but now we have a Bitcoin zealot, one Pierre Rochard, declaring that Michael Saylor, the man behind Strategy, is giving the venerable Jerome Powell, Chairman of the Federal Reserve, a run for his money. Or rather, his Bitcoin. 🤑
“Full Reserve Banking” – A Novel Concept
The Federal Reserve, that paragon of fiscal prudence, operates under a fractional reserve system, allowing banks to retain just a fraction of their deposits while lending out the rest, like a game of financial musical chairs. 🎶 The interest rate the Fed offers on reserves or Treasuries? A mere pittance at 4.5%. Hardly the stuff of dreams for those seeking to grow their wealth.
Contrast this with Strategy, whose preferred stock (STRC) is underpinned by the robust and ever-so-fashionable Bitcoin reserves. Strategy boasts the world’s largest Bitcoin stash, a staggering 636,505 BTC, which has seen their balance sheet balloon by a whopping 580%. Now, that’s what I call growth! 🚀
Rochard, ever the provocateur, likens Strategy’s approach to “full reserve banking,” thanks to its substantial Bitcoin holdings. And to top it off, Strategy has generously increased the STRC dividend to a jaw-dropping 10%, making the Fed’s 4.5% look positively quaint.
Fed Will Not Embrace Bitcoin, Alas
Rochard, never one to mince words, suggests that the Fed itself should hold Bitcoin, citing the success of Strategy’s treasury reserve strategy. However, Powell, ever the traditionalist, has steadfastly refused, citing legal restrictions and an unwillingness to seek legislative changes to accommodate such a radical idea. 🙅♂️
