A UK release date for It: Welcome to Derry has been confirmed – and there isn’t too long to wait
The upcoming prequel to the Andy Muschietti-directed movies based on Stephen King’s “It” is scheduled to debut in the UK on Sky Atlantic and NOW on Monday, October 27th, 2025.
This coincides with its HBO Max release a day earlier (Sunday 26th October) in the US.
The information was made official when HBO Max announced it on social media, posting an image of the Capitol Theatre (a venue significant for the upcoming series) with the word ‘IT’ in red flashing lights within the Capitol. Accompanying the post, they wrote: “Everyone’s eager to witness IT.
According to Stephen King’s book titled “It,” which was released in 1986, the upcoming movie “It: Welcome to Derry” will center around a new group of kids who encounter Pennywise the Dancing Clown, about 27 years prior to the events depicted in Muschietti’s films.
Bill Skarsgård will once again take on the famous clown Pennywise, a character he portrayed in both of Muschietti’s films. Additionally, actors such as Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, Taylour Paige, James Remar, and Stephen Rider are also set to join the cast.
Back in 2023, when the series was initially announced, King expressed his excitement saying: “I’m thrilled that the tale of Derry, Maine’s most haunted city, is carrying on. I’m pleased that Andy Muschietti will be leading the chilling events, joined by a talented team which includes his sister, Barbara. Let’s see lots of red balloons everywhere!
Muschietti (the director) and his sister Barbara Muschietti, who jointly developed the show, mentioned that they intend to delve into the full spectrum of Steve’s book, encompassing its emotional depth, humor, human qualities, and horrifying elements.
