Sheinelle Jones Says Her Heart is “Shattered” During Today Return

Sheinelle Jones has reunited with her Today family.

Four months after the passing of her almost 18-year partner Uche Ojeh, who lost his life due to glioblastoma, a severe type of brain cancer, Sheinelle revisited Studio 1A. In a conversation with anchor Savannah Guthrie, Sheinelle opened up about how she’s been coping.

She expressed her deep sorrow by saying, ‘My heart is broken into countless fragments.’ The life that has been mine since I was 19 years old no longer exists. I’ve always dreamt of having children, and now I have three, who are left without their father. It’s incredibly hard for me as their mother.

She mentioned that her situation is a day-by-day struggle, yet she feels a sense of accomplishment in how she’s managed so far. She expresses pride in her children as well for their resilience during these tough times. However, she admitted it’s truly awful. Yet, she assures us that she’s alive, taking breaths, and doing alright.

Sheinelle also detailed how she’s helped her kids navigate the devastating loss of their father.

She mentioned that the temporary nature of rain is something she’s conveyed to her children. In other words, rain can’t persist forever. When it does rain, she’s learned to view it as a cleansing event, helping to purify the air around her. As a result, she no longer avoids crying when it happens. Instead, she sees grief as a form of healing rain that she welcomes and finds comfort in, knowing that it will eventually pass, and then she resumes her activities.

Before her friend came back, Savannah discussed details about their conversation and how Sheinelle had been dealing in the months following her husband’s passing with her.

Savannah mentioned during the September 2nd episode of Today that she referred to this event as a “beautiful nightmare.” She offered profound insights about dealing with grief, and she has a heartwarming message of encouragement for those going through their own challenges. We’ll be sharing her uplifting message with you soon.

The 53-year-old expressed their excitement about Sheinelle’s return by saying, ‘We can hardly contain our eagerness to have her back, in the place where she truly belongs.’

Previously, Sheinelle’s family on the Today show has shown support for her during difficult times. After Uche’s passing in May, they assembled an emotional tribute in his honor.

During the May episode, Savannah expressed that they couldn’t find the right words to describe the sorrow they felt for Sheinelle and her three little children. She continued by saying Uche was an extraordinary individual, deeply admired by all. To honor him, she wanted to share some insights about the exceptional man who stood as Sheinelle’s soulmate in life.

In this context, Craig Melvin was the one who shared about how fantastic a father Uche is to their children, alongside Sheinelle.

Craig clarified that there was a topic he frequently discussed – it was his affection for certain children. These children held a special place in his heart, and he felt an immense pride about them.

Uche was consistently present as a dedicated parent, with Craig noting that he was the kind of father who could always be found on the soccer field sideline. He attended every concert and recital, and he embodied that supportive role. He was a significant presence in their lives, and they shared a heartwarming love story.

Al Roker, for his part, revealed Uche was “wickedly funny.”

Al mentioned that he often said things that were unexpected, yet he wasn’t boastful at all. Instead, he was extremely modest.

Before rejoining Today, Sheinelle expressed her thoughts on Uche’s death exclusively after the tribute. On her Instagram Story dated May 23, she shared the segment with a message saying “Thank you for your love and support” which she wrote to express gratitude for everyone’s kindness and sympathy.
