Kate Gosselin Details Losing Baby No. 7 Ahead of Welcoming Sextuplets

Kate Gosselin is reflecting on a difficult loss.

Approximately two decades have passed since the woman who appeared on “Jon & Kate Plus 8” (a show featuring Jon Gosselin) gave birth to their sextuplets. Recently, she looked back at her original pregnancy that resulted in septuplets and the tragic loss of one baby.

In a TikTok video posted on September 3rd, Kate shared an essential tale about the seventh baby. During our first ultrasound at six weeks, there were seven babies displayed. I believe we returned either a week or two later to check their development. To be honest, I can’t recall precisely – it was either one or two weeks after.

At that point in time, Jon and Kate, parents of twins Mady and Cara (now 24), discovered one of their unborn sextuplets had passed away. However, she persevered through the pregnancy until a near-miscarriage incident occurred a few weeks later.

Kate went on to say, “At a certain moment, I began to bleed. Initially, I feared it signaled the start of a miscarriage. Sadly, we already knew that our seventh baby hadn’t been developing anymore.

Kate recalled that during her stay in the emergency room, she was petrified she might have miscarried her sextuplets – Alexis, Joel, Leah, Hannah, Collin, and Aaden, who are all 21 years old now.

She reminisced, “I had mentioned that I was carrying six babies, initially seven, and was on tenterhooks while waiting for the ultrasound results. At a certain moment, the technician grew unusually quiet, and I braced myself, thinking, ‘Here it comes, this is it.’ I was genuinely terrified.

However, Kate was pleasantly surprised.

Without warning, she exclaimed, “I count six,” to which I replied, “Six what are you counting?” She responded, “Six heartbeats. They’re there.” That’s when it hit me that I was truly dedicated to these babies, as I felt the relief wash over me. And then, I couldn’t help but cry.

Kate has openly discussed undergoing fertility treatments due to polycystic ovary syndrome and documented her journey to having eight children in a series of TikTok posts. Upon discovering her first pregnancy with twins, the 50-year-old recalled the unforgettable happiness she felt upon seeing her successful ultrasound for the first time.

She exclaimed with excitement on her latest TikTok (posted Aug. 29), ‘It sends shivers down my spine!’ Cara had a heartbeat, Mady did too. I was crying so intensely and trembling that they said, ‘Hold still! We can’t see you properly because you’re moving too much.’

Jacob Mayo, a cast member of “Duck Dynasty” and his wife, have been forthright about the significance of sharing their experiences with fertility issues on their family’s latest reality show.

In the same May 2025 interview with Jacob for Us Weekly, Bella candidly revealed that their show delves into the theme of infertility, a personal aspect they haven’t openly discussed much. She emphasized that appearances can be deceptive on social media, as one might not be aware of the struggles others are facing.

In my perspective, it wasn’t just a comfortable fit but also enabled us to genuinely express ourselves as we truly are on this fresh television series.

Before Christian McCaffrey and the ex-Miss Universe announced they were expecting their first child, she opened up about how her endometriosis diagnosis might cause potential fertility problems in the future.

Culpo expressed that while she desires to become a parent, she wants to ensure it’s feasible. She opened up about her health condition in a 2022 episode of The Culpo Sisters, revealing that due to complications from the disease she was diagnosed with in 2020 and had surgery for, conceiving could potentially be challenging for her.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share some insights about Endometriosis and its impact on fertility. This condition has a unique way of manifesting itself, often disrupting the reproductive system in various ways. For instance, endometrial tissue might grow near or even on your ovaries, potentially influencing the quality of your eggs. Additionally, it may lead to scarring within the fallopian tubes, which can impact their functionality.

In a heartfelt post, Bachelor Nation’s Caelynn openly discussed the challenges she and her husband, Dean Bell, have faced when trying to conceive, since their wedding in the year 2023.

In a YouTube video posted in March 2025, I confess with all sincerity, “It’s still quite a challenge.” However, I’ve eased up significantly on the self-imposed expectations compared to the early days when I first started out.

Despite finding the situation emotionally taxing, Caelynn maintains a sunny outlook as they both undergo medical tests to “uncover the mystery” or “identify the issue” at hand.

As an ardent fan, I’ve always admired the courage of the Dancing With the Stars co-host, who’s been vocal about her battles with endometriosis – a condition that affects women’s reproductive health. Her relentless efforts to protect her fertility for when she decides it’s time to embark on motherhood truly inspire me.

In June 2025, she shared that she froze her eggs for the third time.

Ever since Sonny joined her family with husband Tim Rosenman in 2017, “The Hills” alum has openly discussed the highs and lows of her fertility experiences, sharing details about her two pregnancy losses and also her surrogate’s unfortunate miscarriages twice.

In July 2024, Whitney confirmed she’s preparing for a second egg retrieval.

As a devoted admirer, I enthusiastically confess that I’ve improved significantly since my previous encounter. The reason? I now have a better grasp of what lies ahead. Plus, an unshakable trust and confidence in my physician is the foundation for my optimism.

Regardless of the outcome of their endeavor to expand their family, Whitney has consistently expressed that her family of three is complete with no voids or shortcomings.

In the context of a July 2024 birthday tribute, she penned: “As we set sail on our second fertility adventure, I’m reminded that our family is whole in every sense. You, my dear child, are a precious gift. It’s heartwarming to see you flourish, and we are eternally grateful for your easy-going nature.

The actress from “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” who wed Jean Todt in 2023 following an 19-year long engagement, previously discussed the difficulties she faced while trying to have children with her initial spouse, Dickson Poon.

During a podcast interview in November 2024, Michelle revealed her long-held desire for starting a family. She underwent fertility treatments to facilitate this dream, but admitted that the monthly struggles were incredibly tough. Every month, she felt overwhelmed with feelings of failure.

Instead, she went on to say, “Eventually, one learns to stop self-blame. Some aspects of our bodies may not work as intended. Such is life. It’s about letting go and moving forward.

The musician, who has a son named Wilde with her partner Maximillion Cooper, previously spoke openly about the painful miscarriage she endured as a result of an ectopic pregnancy during the shooting of her TV series ‘Eve’.

In her memoir titled “Who’s That Girl?“, Eve revealed that she discovered she was pregnant in 2006. Due to an unexpected need for emergency surgery, she had to halt filming for two weeks. She confessed that she deceived everyone on set by claiming her appendix had ruptured instead of disclosing the truth about her pregnancy. Perhaps, she was hiding the truth from herself as well.

She expressed that if she had to go through losing her baby, she wasn’t sure two weeks would suffice for emotional recovery. In reality, those two weeks barely allowed enough time for her to recover physically before returning to work on set. After the surgery, she had lost a significant amount of weight and her body was quite weak.

The star from “Selling Sunset,” who became a mother to her son Austin at the tender age of 15, has openly discussed her and her husband Romain Bonnet’s experiences with fertility.

In an interview with TopMob News in September 2024, she shared that the future is uncertain for them, as they are simply managing things day by day. With her current preoccupation with a book and the ongoing season, she acknowledges that her busy schedule might prevent anything from moving forward if she’s stressed or overwhelmed.

Furthermore, Mary mentioned that apart from having a surgical procedure to correct a uterus with a dividing septum (a condition where the uterus is split by a membrane), both Mary and Romain are taking things slow and content with their canine companion.

The real estate agent mentioned that they have a pet cat named Thor, who Romaine is deeply fond of. Even if a transaction doesn’t go through, Romaine says he’ll manage because he has his beloved cat for companionship. Essentially, things will work out as they should.

The NFL sportscaster, along with her husband, who goes by Jarret Stoll, experienced a variety of highs and lows throughout their parenthood journey, which culminated in the birth of their son Mack in July 2023. Notably, they had to contend with Erin’s cervical cancer diagnosis back in 2017.

After freezing her eggs prior to her cancer fight, she subsequently went through In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) in an effort to have a child – an experience she chose to openly discuss and reveal to others.

In her 2021 essay, she articulated the reason for her decision to share her hardships: “I was simply exhausted from keeping silent,” she said. “It was an arduous, painful trek that left me feeling like a mechanical automaton on an unjust roller coaster ride where I often received grim news.

She said, “I’m open with my feelings and can express myself sincerely. I could easily discuss the difficulties we face in trying to conceive, understanding that many other couples and families go through similar struggles.
