Last week saw September’s streaming services kick off with a bang as numerous high-profile shows made their debut. Shows such as The Great British Baking Show and The Paper, already renewed for another season, will carry on this week. For those looking for something new to watch while waiting for the next episode, there are some exciting fresh options available.
The Wedding Banquet – September 8 (Paramount+)
As a cinephile, I’d say Ang Lee’s 1993 masterpiece, “The Wedding Banquet,” was a breakthrough film for him as a director that truly showcased his talent. Interestingly enough, this iconic movie was reimagined in 2025 with an impressive ensemble of actors such as Bowen Yang, Lily Gladstone, and Kelly Marie Tran gracing the screen. The critically-acclaimed remake of “The Wedding Banquet” may have slipped under some radars at the box office, but if you’re a Paramount+ subscriber, you can catch it this week and see what all the buzz is about!

Only Murders In the Building, Season 5 – September 9 (Hulu)
As a devoted film enthusiast, I can’t help but sing the praises of “Only Murders in the Building.” This series continues to stand out among the streaming landscape, and a significant part of that success is undeniably due to its stellar ensemble – the hilarious trio of Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez.
One of the show’s most appealing aspects is its consistent release schedule, sparing fans from agonizing three-year waits between seasons. And just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, Season 5 is finally here! This week, Hulu subscribers can jump back into the mystery as our beloved protagonists delve into the perplexing death of the charismatic doorman Lester (Teddy Coluca), who met his untimely end in a fountain at the close of the previous season.
Get ready to be captivated by another round of suspense, humor, and stellar performances!

Seen & Heard: The History Of Black Television – September 9 (HBO Max)
Hailing from producer Issa Rae, “Seen & Heard” is a two-part documentary that explores the historical journey of Black representation on television, a tale often overlooked. Notable media personalities like Shonda Rhimes and Oprah Winfrey are among those who share their insights in this production.

Aka Charlie Sheen – September 10 Netflix
Recently, Charlie Sheen’s name used to be frequently in headlines, often due to less favorable incidents. A fresh documentary, which can be accessed with a Netflix subscription, delves into the life and career of the ex-star of Two and a Half Men, exploring both his triumphs and struggles.

Warfare – September 12 (HBO Max)
As a film enthusiast, I wholeheartedly endorse HBO Max for its exclusive partnership with A24 – a studio that consistently delivers intriguing and exceptional films. The latest gem from their stable, “Warfare,” is now streaming on the platform. Penned by Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland, this film has garnered acclaim for its raw and heart-wrenching narrative journey. If you were unable to catch it in cinemas, I strongly suggest giving it a watch at home.

Screamboat – September 12 (Peacock)
Actually, this isn’t giving you a sense of déjà vu. It’s not like “The Mouse Trap,” that dreadful horror film capitalizing on the public domain status of Steamboat Willie. Instead, it’s another horror movie profiting from the same public domain status as Steamboat Willie, and it’s the one featuring Colin Jost and Pete Davidson’s Staten Island Ferry.
In September, the streaming scene is expected to remain vibrant, featuring fresh seasons of shows like “Slow Horses” and “Tulsa King”, along with the debut of the animated Marvel Zombies series. There’s definitely a wide range of entertainment options available for everyone.
