In the Elbaf Arc of One Piece, the battle against the Holy Knights momentarily shifts focus as we delve into Harald’s backstory. This arc opens with the introduction of Loki, a cursed prince who bears the guilt of his father, the revered King of Elbaf’s death. Fourteen years ago, Harald was assassinated in the Aurust Castle, and only Loki and Jarul possess the true account of the event. Loki eluded Elbaf following the incident, eventually captured by Shanks six years later. He has served his time in the Underworld since then, while Jarul remains tight-lipped about the matter. Yet, there are numerous aspects of this tragic event that seem incongruous. The narrative of One Piece suggests on multiple occasions that Loki may not be as wicked as the Giants portray him to be.
Apart from their initial spat, it’s worth noting that he and Luffy found common ground swiftly. Following the Holy Knights’ assault on Elbaf, Loki was driven by a sense of urgency to escape his bonds in order to save those in the Sun World. Ignoring his own wounds, Loki fell shortly after Luffy managed to free him from his chains. As confirmed in Chapter 1152, Harald met his end at the hands of his own soldiers when Loki and Jarul entered the throne room. Although the series has cleared Harald’s name regarding the heinous crime, there are still several mysteries left unsolved. Before the truth behind Harald’s demise is unveiled, One Piece delves into his past, particularly the tale of his youth and the birth of his sons.
One Piece’s Loki Was Abandoned Right After His Birth
In a less than fortunate turn of events, Loki has had a troubled past that appears to persist even today, as he’s been confined to the Underworld for six long years. His mother, Estrid, was a member of a noble lineage and reigned as Queen of Elbaf. Despite Hajurdin being Harald’s firstborn, it is only Loki who is acknowledged as the prince of Elbaf. However, upon giving birth, Estrid was shocked by her son’s serpentine eyes and commanded her servants to cast him into the Underworld, proclaiming that the child had died shortly after birth. This transpired during a time when Harald was engrossed in diplomatic matters, leaving no one with the power to challenge the Queen’s command.
Loki’s mother labeled her newborn son as a cursed beast and then heartlessly abandoned him. Overwhelmed by guilt, she returned home, became emotionally distraught, and eventually fell sick. Despite her weakened condition, she wished to get rid of Loki when she found out he was trying to reach the Sun World. She believed that his birth had been prophesied as a sign that he would one day kill his father, King Harald. From then on, Elbaf blamed all misfortunes on the “Cursed Prince.” As the chapter concludes, we see a lone figure of Kid Loki, holding a weapon.
One Piece Will Continue to Answer Every Question About Loki
The recently released chapter implies that the Giants’ disdain for Loki wasn’t solely based on his actions, but stemmed from a long-standing prejudice dating back to his birth. Whether it was due to the prophecy or his physical characteristics, nothing about him seemed acceptable to them. Despite carrying the blood of the Ancient Giants, he was shunned by those around him. Earlier in the Elbaf Arc, we learned that Loki had a history of causing trouble as a youngster, setting fires and releasing monstrous creatures from the Underworld onto villages.
It’s possible that he craved attention due to spending most of his life in solitude, or maybe it was a mischievous act aimed at those who disregarded him. The real story behind his origin will shed light on his past in Elbaf and his bond with Harald.
14 years ago, Loki felt let down by Harald because he was forging alliances with the World Government. Yet, his demeanor showed clear distress upon witnessing Harald’s demise.
Apart from not possessing the mythical devil fruit, Loki hadn’t partaken of it at that moment in time. Given Elbaf’s tendency to attribute their misfortunes to him, they instantly concluded Loki was the culprit for this crime. Yet, Jarul’s reticence implies a more substantial secret is in play, and he might be concealing the truth to shield something or someone from harm.
