Wow! With over 800 of us taking part in the poll last month, we’ve got some clear favorites! Here are the top five PlayStation 5 games of August 2025, as chosen by all of us:
1. Title A
2. Title B
3. Title C
4. Title D
5. Title E
It seems we had a packed month indeed!
- Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater – 222 votes (28%)
- Shinobi: Art of Vengeance – 162 votes (20%)
- Sword of the Sea – 142 votes (18%)
- Mafia: The Old Country – 102 votes (13%)
- Gears of War: Reloaded – 65 votes (8%)
The game Metal Gear Solid Delta seems to have garnered a lot of positive feedback from players, earning some very favorable ratings from critics. In fact, it’s currently ranked among the top-rated games of the year.
Delta preserves the classic structure of Metal Gear Solid 3, yet introduces refreshing updates such as an improved third-person perspective camera and controls reminiscent of Metal Gear Solid 5 for a more contemporary gaming experience.
This experience brings a sense of nostalgia as well as careful reinvention, making it effortless to comprehend why it received such a high number of votes.
Congratulations, Snake — you’ve proven that, once again, you’re worthy of the name Boss.
After a somewhat slower pace in June and July, the PS5’s release schedule is picking up speed noticeably.
For gaming enthusiasts such as ourselves who critique video games, August proved to be a notably active month, overflowing with eagerly awaited game releases on Sony’s contemporary console. As a result, we handed out several exceptionally high ratings.
Among the victors were games such as Metal Gear Solid Delta, Sword of the Sea, and Shinobi: Art of Vengeance. Each of these games received outstanding reviews with a score of 9/10, and they all present unique experiences that differ significantly from one another.
To kick things off, we’re diving into Delta, a reinterpretation that has garnered much acclaim as it successfully blends modern elements with an authentic recreation of a cherished evergreen game title. Admittedly, our team doesn’t usually favor granting Game of the Month to remakes – be they remasters or retellings. However, Delta is certainly in the running for this month’s award.
The enchanting gameplay and stunning visuals of Sword of the Sea left us in awe, much like a standalone, contemplative work of art. It echoes the style of ‘Journey’ but carves out its unique identity as a remarkable meditation-inspired game.
Additionally, you might consider rephrasing as follows: Beyond that, there’s Shinobi – an action-packed platformer that’s simply delightful to navigate with your ninja blade. Not only did the acclaimed Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound from July take care of our side-scrolling cravings, but this reintroduction of SEGA’s beloved series might even surpass it in quality.
However, August brought some letdowns too. Mafia: The Old Country and Lost Soul Aside failed to deliver the expected punch. Mafia’s outdated aesthetic hindered its impact, while Lost Soul Aside didn’t quite live up to its inspirations, despite years of development.
Every time, it’s entirely up to you whether you concur with our evaluations. Before we invite you to cast your vote for the Game of the Month, let’s quickly review the winners we’ve had so far in 2025…
- January: Ninja Gaiden 2 Black
- February: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
- March: Assassin’s Creed Shadows
- April: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
- May: DOOM: The Dark Ages
- June: Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
- July: Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound
