Over the weekend, Vin Diesel revealed some significant updates about the upcoming Fast & Furious film, set to release in April 2027. Speaking directly to a crowd at Fuel Fest 2025, Diesel disclosed that while negotiating with Universal, he had made three crucial demands for this final installment of the franchise. First, the movie will be back in Los Angeles, second, it will revert to its roots as a street-racing subculture story, and third, Dom Torretto (Diesel’s character) will reunite with Brian O’Connor (Paul Walker’s character). Since Walker passed away during the filming of Furious 7 in 2013, it remains to be seen how he will feature in this final movie.
At Fuel Fest, Diesel radiated the same level of self-assurance and command as Dom Torretto at his local car show, Race Wars. Videos from the event captured him discussing his agreement with Universal to the audience, interspersed with applause. While these revelations aren’t particularly shocking, they have been a topic of discussion among fans for quite some time now. The most intriguing mystery remains the portrayal of Brian, and many spectators are already expressing apprehension about his appearance.
In 2013, a car accident took Paul Walker’s life during the final stages of filming for Fast & Furious 7. To complete the movie, his two brothers stepped in as stand-ins, with their faces digitally replaced by that of Walker in all subsequent scenes. Instead of writing off the character, Brian O’Conner remains a constant presence, participating from the sidelines, though not directly involved in each mission.
In the “Fast Saga” movies, Diesel is both a prominent actor and a key producer. He along with his co-stars, have suggested that they might find a way to bring back the character Brian in some form. While many believe this could be achieved using more body doubles and computer-generated imagery (CGI), there’s also speculation about recasting the role. With studios increasingly utilizing digital rendering and de-aging techniques, it appears that Brian’s final appearance might involve Paul Walker’s recognizable face.
Discussing the comeback to L.A. and the street-racing subculture, this is something Diesel and fans have long discussed. The franchise was rejuvenated in 2009 by shifting to an outlaw crime drama, and since then it has delved into spy thrillers and even sci-fi. Ending the series in a straightforward manner may appeal to many fans, particularly as the planned spinoffs can continue to explore new directions.
The upcoming movie in the Fast Saga series, currently known as “Fast X Part 2,” is planned for release in April 2027. As of now, earlier movies in the series can be found on various streaming platforms; however, the initial three films are available on Netflix.
