2025 saw an up-and-down performance for Disney at the cinema, with mixed results for their releases. The Marvel Cinema Universe film, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”, was the sole production to surpass $500 million globally, following underperformances from “Captain America: Brave New World” and “Thunderbolts”. Disney’s reimagining of Snow White turned out to be a major flop, as did Pixar’s film, “Elio”. However, Disney also managed one of the most successful films this year with their live-action remake of “Lilo & Stitch”, which is currently the only American film of 2025 to exceed $1 billion worldwide. It’s no surprise that the success at the box office for “Lilo & Stitch” has translated into a strong showing on home platforms as well.
Based on data from FlixPatrol, a service that tracks the popularity of movies across streaming platforms, it’s Lilo & Stitch that currently tops the global charts on Disney+, significantly outranking other titles such as Thunderbolts and both Incredibles films.
Lilo & Stitch Has Been a Hit on Disney+ All Year

During Memorial Day weekend, the box office experienced a remarkable surge as Lilo & Stitch raked in an impressive $182.6 million over four days. The remake attracted massive crowds to cinemas and sparked interest among fans to explore the extensive library of Lilo & Stitch content on Disney+. As a result, both the original 2002 animated film and several sequels and TV shows climbed up the charts, with many landing in the top 10.
It’s no wonder that people were thrilled when Disney announced they’re working on a live-action sequel to the beloved Lilo & Stitch. Although an official release date hasn’t been set, it’s known for sure that Chris Sanders is writing the script. Sanders, who played a significant role in the creation of the Lilo & Stitch universe, having co-directed and co-written the original animated film, as well as voicing Stitch, will be back on board for this new project.
It’s no surprise that one of the year’s top box office earners, Lilo & Stitch, is popular on Disney+ now. Many families have been eagerly awaiting its streaming debut, which allows them to rewatch the movie comfortably at home. While the remake was previously available for digital and Blu-ray purchase, streaming seems more attractive to many viewers due to the convenience it offers. Instead of shelling out additional money for a digital download or physical disc, they can utilize their existing Disney+ subscription instead.
Currently, “Lilo & Stitch” rules the streaming rankings, but it’s likely that its title as the top Hollywood movie of 2025 won’t last long. It’s highly probable that another Disney film will take over the spotlight. The upcoming “Zootopia 2” is expected to be a huge attraction when it debuts during Thanksgiving, given that its predecessor raked in over $1 billion globally. Therefore, it seems plausible that the sequel will achieve similar success. Later in the year, “Avatar: Fire and Ash”, directed by James Cameron, is set to release, aiming to replicate its forerunners’ impressive $2 billion earnings at the box office. Both these films are expected to perform well in cinemas and, eventually, on Disney+ as well.
