DC’s Red Hood Just Gave Us the Best Dynamic Duo of 2025 (Review)

Recently, things have been tough for DC’s Red Hood, and his connection with Batman and the Bat Family has become intricate to the point of being difficult. Given his complex past, a fresh beginning seems appropriate, even for someone as layered as Red Hood. This leads us to DC Comics’ Red Hood #1, and not only does this issue offer a new beginning but also several members of the Bat Family find themselves in a better state, all while a genuinely intriguing mystery unfolds at the core of it. It seems that things are finally starting to work out for Red Hood.

In the initial five pages, writer Gretchen Felker-Martin skillfully establishes the mood and atmosphere of the series, effectively portraying the city’s condition and the stark contrast it presents compared to Hood’s usual haunts in Gotham.

In contrast to Gotham’s grime and corruption, New Angelique occasionally seems like an entirely distinct realm because of the vibrant imagery created through the dialogues and artistic styles by Jeff Spokes and Becca Carey.

As a die-hard comic book fan, I’ve got to admit, Red Hood has never looked cooler than he does now, cruising through the city streets. And when it comes to those intense fight scenes? Let me tell you, they don’t disappoint! Red Hood is one of a kind in Gotham City, and this series doesn’t hesitate to showcase his unique style.

In tight spaces, the artists masterfully highlight Hood’s movements with the intricate detailing on his jacket and sharp lettering, keeping you right in the middle of the action. And the action itself? It’s raw, intense, and leaves nothing to the imagination – it’s like watching Red Hood in his element, firing away with precision and power. So if you’re a fan of gritty, no-holds-barred combat, this series is definitely worth checking out!

In essence, the plot truly takes off when Huntress appears on the scene. Huntress is an ideal match for a character like Jason due to their shared traits and past conflicts with parts or all of the Bat Family at different points. The makeshift partnership between them is quite effective in this storyline, not only because it showcases their contrasting personalities but also because they tend to act first and think later when confronting a situation.

Regarding the enigma lying at the core of this situation, although information about the perpetrator remains scant, there’s an undeniable draw to uncover the truth, and Red Hood is no exception. He’s eager to decipher everything, simultaneously wondering if he has the abilities required to see it through or if he should step back. This intriguing back-and-forth presents an opportunity for Jason to excel in his domain while further developing his character significantly. For now, it appears we have a promising beginning, and we’ll soon discover whether this potential will be realized.

The comic book, titled ‘Red Hood’, commences briskly by setting up its main character effectively, but truly excels when both principal characters are involved. Featuring a compelling menace and two intensely intricate personalities who endeavor to resolve this threat while managing their own issues, ‘Red Hood’ has the capacity to become one of the standout surprises in the year’s comic book releases.

Red Hood #1 is in comic stores now.
