The arrival of September signals that the long-awaited second season of Wednesday is finally upon us, and numerous viewers have already devoured all eight episodes in a single sitting. This series has brought back into focus one mysterious and adored family that strikes fear into our hearts, and fans couldn’t be more elated about it. Nevertheless, it cannot be ignored that Wednesday has dared to push boundaries, altering the Addams Family lore in various ways, particularly in this second season. This bold move has sparked a flurry of theories among fans about what could transpire in Season 3 or further down the line. Until another season premieres, we’ll remain in the dark as to whether any of these speculations hold water, but they certainly make for entertaining musings.
Despite only being a month since the release of Wednesday Season 2 on Netflix, fans can breathe easy as the streaming giant has already confirmed a Season 3 and hinted at a possible spin-off series. The Addams Family’s life may be more tumultuous than ever, but it seems they are thriving nonetheless.
Note: This article contains spoilers for Wednesday Season 2.
8) Catherine Zeta Jones Will Portray Ophelia Frump
Lately, Ophelia Frump has been a recurring topic, as Wednesday seems determined to master her abilities. Fans didn’t get a chance to witness Ophelia on-screen until the end of Wednesday Season 2.
In Season 3, it’s plausible that we might witness a scenario similar to Season 1, where an actress plays more than one role, like Carolyn Jones did with Morticia and Ophelia in the original series. Interestingly, Wednesday’s Season 1 itself used this technique when Jennifer Ortega portrayed both Wednesday and her ancestor, Goody Addams.
Using this reasoning, it’s possible that Catherine Zeta-Jones could take on two roles, depicting both the captivating Morticia Addams and the troubled Ophelia Frump in a production.
7) The Original Avian Is Still In Play
In Season 2, the Stonehearsts were introduced, with Augustus Stonehearst being a brilliant yet normative character who aimed at stripping the abilities from Outcasts for personal gain. Successfully building a dangerous machine, Augustus bestowed his daughter, Judi, with the power of a bird.
It’s possible that this section of the story concluded with their demise, but there are a couple of crucial details to remember. Initially, we didn’t learn who the Avian actually was. Although we know Judi lost her powers, we don’t know from whom they were taken. We might jump to the conclusion that the Avian is deceased, but during the Season 2 finale, a one-eyed crow was spotted flying, which hints that the Avian may still be alive.
“The presence of the crow hints that some elements within the storyline are yet to be concluded. With the series’ affinity for exploring familial dynamics, it wouldn’t be surprising if a relative of the original bird carries resentment, even if the original didn’t make it through.
6) Everything Enid Was Told Is A Lie
As Season 2 commenced, Enid emerged as a self-assured and emancipated werewolf. She moved with the confidence of someone who has finally discovered their niche in the world, much of which stemmed from embracing her werewolf transformation. Initially, this was a source of joy for Enid; however, it soon evolved into a rather troubling predicament.
The story unfolds as Enid undergoes a change, not on nights with a full moon. This is peculiar, even from Enid’s perspective. Matters become more troubling when Miss Capri questions Enid about it. Essentially, Enid is unveiled as an alpha werewolf – beings known for their strength and danger, but they generally prefer solitude. However, the downside is alarming: alphas can’t transform under a full moon or risk being trapped in that state permanently. It appears that, despite their immense power, alpha werewolves face more perils than advantages.
It’s puzzling, isn’t it? Enid was raised in a family of werewolves, studied with many others like her, and even had the opportunity to lead the pack for a while during summer. Yet, it seems no one ever warned or explained to her about the potential dangers associated with being an alpha wolf. This is particularly intriguing considering Capri’s statement that late bloomers are more likely to become alphas. It’s hard not to think that someone should have taken the time to advise and caution Enid about this matter.
It’s possible that everything Capri has told us might not be true. Given her history of deceitfulness, it’s reasonable to suspect that she may have been lying about her true identity to the school, as well as her supposed single connection with Hyde. Now that she’s disappeared with Tyler, some fans are questioning whether she had ulterior motives for wanting Enid alone and possibly compromised. This is a plausible concern among viewers.
5) Miss Capri Has Plans for Tyler and Enid
I’ve been pondering over the recent speculations surrounding Enid’s situation. While some fans are concerned about Enid being ensnared in a deceitful web, others are alarmed by what appears to be Miss Capri’s unusual intentions towards Enid and Tyler. As a fellow enthusiast, I can’t help but share the intriguing theory presented by Reddit user Final_Mix_700. This theory proposes that Miss Capri might be a werewolf/Hyde hybrid, a hypothesis that, if true, could explain her interest in preserving her unique species.
She harbors distinct plans concerning Tyler and Enid, which is an uncomfortable thought, and it’s certain that Wednesday would express forceful views on this scheme. This hypothesis could account for why Capri took the trouble to meet Tyler, all while making efforts to keep Enid at a distance.
4) Tyler’s Journey Will Include Learning Control Over His Hyde
In simple terms, the Season 2 finale on Wednesday ended with numerous open-ended storylines, one of which is about Tyler. We last found him mourning the death of his mother for the second time and linking up with Capri.
There’s a possibility that what Capri is presenting him might just be a pile of falsehoods. She might be aiming to manipulate Tyler; after all, she wouldn’t be the only one. Yet, it’s also plausible that she’s speaking truthfully and joining this Hyde group could be the key for Tyler to regain control over his other self.
Some enthusiasts are speculating whether Miss Capri might be launching a modified adaptation of Willow Hill, tailored specifically for Hydes and perilous werewolves. Feel free to explore this hypothesis as extensively as desired, since it could open up numerous possibilities going forward.
3) The Reasons Behind Ophelia’s Lockup
It’s not surprising that numerous fan theories have emerged, attempting to understand why Grandmama Hester Frump chose to imprison one of her two daughters. One widely accepted interpretation is that the unfortunate daughter, Ophelia, fell victim to the madness often associated with ravens, a predisposition suggested in the narrative.
It’s unlikely Grandmama Frump would fabricate the truth about this matter to Morticia, unless she thinks Morticia wouldn’t approve. Given Morticia’s views on Ophelia being institutionalized, Grandmama Frump may not be far off base in her assumption.
Some spectators suggest that, based on the messages found on the wall, Hester Frump might keep her daughter confined for the safety of others. It could also stem from a deeper concern, as it seems she may be particularly focused on shielding her granddaughter, Wednesday. This aligns with Hester’s statement about making sacrifices for her loved ones.
2) There’s an Enemy in Plain Sight
Some fans are arguing over whether Grandmama Hester Frump has locked up her daughter for valid reasons or if she’s secretly playing the role of a villain. For instance, Reddit user Unique-Piccolo-9199 points out that Wednesday has previously used Harry Potter themes and tropes, suggesting they might be using them again in their current narrative.
To put it simply, the theory suggests a twist in the characters of Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew. While one appears to be the villain, the other seems like a hero, but their true roles might be reversed. If Wednesday follows this pattern, it implies that Hester may seem like a loving grandmother, but in truth, she could be working against Wednesday and the family.
Consequently, this implies that Ophelia doesn’t bear malice towards Wednesday. Her message on the wall could in fact serve as a caution against Grandmama’s intentions. It’s a chilling notion, but it’s exactly the type of unexpected plot twist that Wednesday would find intriguing and seize upon.
1) Wednesday Will Find a Way to Transform Enid Back
Most fans are hoping or expecting some sort of resolution for Enid’s plot. It’s hard to forget about Wednesday Season 2 left off with Enid’s tale, as she was last seen stuck in werewolf form, hiding out in the woods. Given that Wednesday is officially tracking Enid down (with the help of Uncle Fester), it’s safe to assume that this will come to a head next season.
Of course, it’s generally assumed that we’ll witness Enid returning to her charming human shape, as opposed to being a lumbering wolf which aligns more with Wednesday’s style. However, the idea of this being her final state doesn’t seem consistent with Enid’s personality.
In terms of Enid’s return, opinions range quite widely. Some speculate that her bond with Wednesday plays a significant role in her recovery, while others think it is her innate alpha power that enables her to regain control. Yet, no matter the method, there seems to be universal consensus that it’s not a question of if, but rather when Enid will reappear.
Wednesday is available to stream on Netflix.
