4 Star Trek Characters the Next Movie Should Leave Behind And Not Even Mention

The current climate is favorable for science fiction franchises. Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune series promises an epic trilogy with a star-studded cast and grand scope, capturing much attention. Even long-struggling series like Alien and Predator have experienced a revival, with recent successful projects, hinting at another major crossover event on the horizon. Regrettably, some sci-fi franchises continue to face challenges in finding their footing, despite enlisting skilled professionals to help steer them back on course.

In simpler terms, “Star Trek” is experiencing great success on television, with the Paramount+ platform offering numerous original series that delve into unexplored realms of the universe and beyond. However, the cinematic aspect of the franchise faces challenges in returning to theaters. Though there are several reasons for “Star Trek’s” cinema struggles, a comeback is inevitable. When it does happen, these four characters should be absent from the new film.

4) Khan

For approximately a decade, it’s been since the significant release of the “Star Trek” movie, titled “Star Trek: Beyond”. Despite this lengthy gap, whispers continue about the cast potentially reuniting for a fourth edition. However, it would be advantageous if Khan were to stay absent from Starfleet’s future cinematic escapade. The questionable twist from “Star Trek: Into Darkness” remains challenging to forget, and any efforts to rectify this could give the impression that those in charge are unwilling to explore fresh concepts.

3) Spock

In contrast to the movie division of “Star Trek” seemingly experimenting, the TV division has been delivering critically acclaimed series. Notably, Paramount has launched “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” a show that includes Ethan Peck as Spock. Although Zachary Quinto delivers an excellent performance in his three appearances, Peck’s portrayal of the character adds a unique touch to the crowded show. It might be beneficial to allow Peck to continue excelling and find another Vulcan actor to assume the role of Spock in the movies.

2) Captain Kirk

In the television series “Strange New Worlds,” James Kirk, similar to his friend Spock, appears, but with a significantly reduced role compared to his prominent position aboard the Starship Enterprise. Despite this lessened screen time suggesting potential for another leading movie role, it’s important to clarify that is not necessarily the case. Given that the series already explores the years preceding Kirk’s command of the Enterprise, there isn’t much untold narrative left for the charismatic captain. It’s now prime time to pass on the leadership responsibilities to a new dynamic character, one who can build upon Kirk’s legacy without rehashing familiar storylines.

1) George Kirk

In my opinion, what’s been preventing the next Star Trek film from taking off is primarily the storyline. For quite some time, rumors swirled that the fourth installment of J.J. Abrams’ universe would involve Kirk traveling through time to encounter his father, George. However, this concept feels more like a cash grab leveraging Chris Hemsworth’s fame than a genuinely progressive move for the franchise. If letting George stay in the past is what it takes to get things rolling again, then I see little room for debate.
