One Piece’s 3 Most Shocking Blackbeard Truths From the Final Saga (And How They Cast Doubt on His Villainy)

Warning: Spoilers Ahead for the One Piece Manga!

In the ongoing manga series “One Piece”, we’re now delving into the eagerly awaited Elbaf Arc. Luffy and his gang are readying themselves for a battle against the Holy Knights, but before the clash commences, the narrative takes a detour to explore Harald’s past. His life story unfolds, revealing how he rose to become Elbaf’s most cherished king. The tale initially transports us to a heart-wrenching event that took place in Aurust Castle 14 years ago, where Loki and Jarul bore witness to Harald’s untimely demise. Rather than elucidating the cause behind Harald’s death, the story instead journeys even further back into his entire life journey. Surprisingly, this narrative isn’t solely about Harald, but also encompasses the legendary pirate Rocks D. Xebec, who shares an intriguing link with Blackbeard.

In the Jaya saga, Marshall D. Teach, better known as Blackbeard, emerged as a key antagonist, and his menacing presence has remained significant over the years. His character has continued to reveal his ruthless and power-hungry nature, making him one of the series’ most formidable villains. With an air of mystery surrounding him, fans have long awaited more insights into this complex character. The current Elbaf storyline has provided some intriguing glimpses but is undoubtedly only the beginning, as there are numerous unexpected plot developments on the horizon. Here’s what we currently know about the villain.

3) Blackbeard Is Rocks D. Xebec’s Son

Until recently, there was speculation about Blackbeard having ties to Rocks, but this wasn’t officially confirmed until the Elbaf Arc, where Blackbeard was revealed as Rocks’ son. While the similarity between them is striking, it’s worth noting that Rocks was once known as one of the world’s most feared pirates. Although it’s been said that Roger and Garp took down Rocks together, the actual story is more complex.

Instead of being innately malevolent like his son, Rocks didn’t crave disorder or widespread destruction, nor did he harbor ambitions to rule the world. Yet, he did aim to bring down the sacred city of Mariejois, and he went as far as killing an Admiral, earning him a substantial bounty. Upon joining the pirate ranks, Rocks became a persistent nuisance for the World Government, prompting them to take extreme measures to eliminate him.

2) Blackbeard Was Present at the God Valley Incident

It appears that the God Valley Incident holds more significance than initially depicted in the series. The brief reference to it in Kuma’s background didn’t provide a complete picture of what transpired that day. However, recent revelations indicate that God Valley is actually Rocks’ homeland. In an attempt to protect his family, he sent his wife and son away from the chaotic incident.

In God Valley, which wasn’t allied with any kingdom, a mother and her son could live freely without facing Marine persecution. But unforeseen events unfolded as the World Government decided to host the Native Hunter Competition in God Valley. This served a dual purpose: eliminating an independent nation and attracting Rocks into their trap. As Chapter 1159 concludes, a young Blackbeard, aged two, is seen shackled with his mother, both fearful of what looms ahead. This portrayal of the character previously believed to be One Piece’s ultimate villain, or at least raises questions about the extent of his villainy, presents a more compassionate image instead.

1) Blackbeard Belongs to the Legendary Davy Clan

During his career as a sea robber, Rocks hid from all that he was truly a part of a noble bloodline. But when he discovered the grim destiny facing the folk of God Valley, he unwittingly walked into the World Government’s trap. He confided in Harald and finally disclosed his true identity: Davy D. Xebec. Not just a pirate, but a direct descendant of the legendary Davy Jones, whose existence has become little more than a forgotten tale in history books.

In Chapter 1155, we meet Rocks who faithfully worships Davy Jones, yet there’s no clue about their relationship. It’s uncertain when Davy Jones lived, but it might have been during the Void Century, as there are no current records of him. The World Government has made efforts to eliminate any traces of this clan, keeping their existence a secret from all. Somehow, descendants of Davy Jones have endured up until now, establishing themselves within the criminal underworld. Given that Rocks is Blackbeard’s father, it’s clear that Blackbeard also belongs to this same lineage. This connection explains why Saturn mentioned in Chapter 1107 that Blackbeard’s bloodline is unique.
