Sony’s PlayStation 5 has reportedly sold more than seven million units in Japan as of September 7th, based on Famitsu’s latest estimates. During that week, the standard version was purchased 36,877 times and the Digital Edition saw 7,315 sales. To date, the base model has been estimated to have sold around 5,771,474 units, while the Digital Edition has reportedly moved approximately 992,697 units.
Meanwhile, the PS5 Standard Edition has moved 2,133 units since its debut a year ago, making a total of 245,766 units sold so far. Interestingly, price hikes in the area (also affecting the US market) haven’t slowed down its sales significantly. It continues to sell well, although its sales growth pales in comparison to the Nintendo Switch 2, which has racked up almost 2 million lifetime sales in this region within just four months of release.
Last month, Sony disclosed that a total of 80.3 million PlayStation 5 (PS5) consoles have been distributed globally. Specifically, 2.5 million units were shipped during the quarter ending June 30th, representing a modest increase of just 100,000 compared to the same period last year.
