Martin Sheen wants his son to have the spotlight.
Two days following the release of Charlie Sheen‘s Netflix documentary, titled “aka Charlie Sheen“, the director of the two-part movie, Andrew Renzi, disclosed the opinions of Charlie Sheen’s father regarding the portrayal of his turbulent true-life tale on screen.
The filmmaker shared with The Hollywood Reporter during an interview on September 11 that he sat next to Martin while watching a documentary. He noted that it felt like being in the presence of the President of the United States, as he watched an early version of the movie with the West Wing star, who seemed rather intimidating to him.
In reality, Andrew’s worries turned out to be unwarranted. This is because, despite Martin and Emilio Estevez (Charlie’s brother), who chose not to participate in an interview for the project, remained supportive of the end product.
In simpler terms, Andrew shared that he believed the father wanted his son to share his own experiences without feeling the need for additional input from himself about his life’s journey.
Even though Martin doesn’t express his views about his son’s life in the documentary, Andrew managed to pay tribute to the elder man in some way.
He mentioned that he already found a suitable way to incorporate him into the story, which he believed was nearly perfect, so conducting an interview with him seemed unnecessary. Similarly, Emilio shared this sentiment.
The debut of the initial segment featuring Charlie Sheen, often known as Charlie Sheen, occurred on Netflix on September 10. This segment includes interviews from various close associates of his, such as his co-star Jon Cryer from the sitcom “Two and a Half Men”, his longtime friend Sean Penn, his ex-wife Denise Richards, and other significant individuals in his life. Among them are his daughters Sami Sheen (21 years old) and Lola Sheen (20 years old), whom he shares with Denise Richards. Additionally, Charlie is the father to Cassandra (40 years old), born from a previous relationship with Paula Profit, and twin sons Bob and Max (16 years old), who were born to him and Brooke Mueller.
Apart from delving into Charlie’s prolonged battle against substance abuse, the documentary sheds light on various facets of his life, encompassing his journey in Hollywood, his three marriages, and his personal aspects concerning his sexuality.
As a devoted admirer, my burning ambition for the year-long undertaking became crystal clear: I aimed to establish a secure sanctuary where the newly sober Charlie could openly discuss every topic that surfaced without reservation.
The director explained that there were various issues they needed to shield him from, so he wouldn’t feel uncomfortable sharing thoughts he might not have intended to disclose,” or simply, “The director wanted to safeguard him from revealing sensitive matters unwittingly.

In 1984, at the tender age of 19, Charlie became a father to Cassandra, having her with his longtime high school sweetheart, Paula Profit.
Although Cassandra usually avoids the limelight, she was accompanied by the “Two and a Half Men” actor as she walked down the aisle at her 2010 wedding to Casey Huffman.
Charlie and his former spouse, Denise Richards, became parents to their oldest child on March 9, 2004, which was two years following their marriage in 2002.
Initially, Sami gained attention when she made an appearance on the 2008 reality show “Denise Richards: It’s Complicated” as a youngster.
Approximately 11 years post her initial success, in 2022, she established a notable reputation by joining OnlyFans as a model upon reaching the age of 18. Since then, this promising newcomer’s career choice has proved to be financially fruitful.
Sami shared with People magazine in February 2025 that this experience has opened numerous opportunities for him. He added that he’s encountered some fantastic individuals along the way, and it’s been very gratifying to be self-employed, set his own schedule, and finally accomplish things he’s long aspired to do.
Lola, who was only three years old when “It’s Complicated” debuted, matured into someone quite distinct from her older sister, known for challenging norms.
Born June 1, 2005, she is a woman of God and a devout Christian.
In a February 2025 interview with People magazine, the hostess shared her extraordinary experience: “I can’t put it into words other than it felt like something beyond the natural world had happened.” She went on to express that following her baptism in church, Jesus not only saved her but also transformed her mind dramatically. In her newfound faith, she considers Jesus as both her Savior and her dearest friend.
The teen also shared how religion saved her from the darkness of depression.
She confessed on Instagram that she had been feeling utterly lost and without hope, simply trying to get through each day. However, someone illuminated her path when she couldn’t find it herself, pulling her out of the shadows. Jesus helped me overcome debilitating anxiety, and granted me a serenity that seems inexplicable.
Ever since Denise’s split from Charlie back in 2011, I’ve been on the edge of my seat, eagerly following her journey. That very same year, she welcomed little Eloise into our lives as an infant adoption. Fast forward to 2016, a medical diagnosis unveiled a deletion in chromosome 8 for Denise and Eloise, leading to delays in walking and speech development – a challenge that only adds more depth to their inspiring story.
Eloise is a radiant spirit,” her mom shared with People in March 2025. “She has an insatiable curiosity and enthusiasm for life that is truly contagious. When the older girls quarrel, Eloise often acts as a peacemaker, diffusing tension with her cheerful demeanor. Seeing this effect on them, I can’t help but smile and think, ‘I know.’ And in that moment, they seem to forget their trivial disputes.
Back in the spring of 2009, I, Charlie, was blessed with not one but two little miracles – twin boys named Bob Sheen and Max Sheen. These precious bundles of joy came into the world on March 14 alongside my loving third wife, Brooke Mueller. Regrettably, our marriage didn’t last long, ending in a divorce just under two years later. As the separation was a tumultuous one, Bob and Max found solace with their mother Denise, during this challenging period.
In 2023, Charlie got candid about raising his youngest children as a single dad.
At that point, he shared with People that their mother was preoccupied with sorting out some matters, which means she hasn’t been very present. He described them as being extremely intelligent, amusing, and overall impressive individuals.
Although they usually avoid public attention, the twins unexpectedly showed up at their mother’s 47th birthday party held in August 2024.
Let’s make sure we don’t overlook the fact that Charlie, originally named Carlos Estévez, comes from a well-known family lineage. His father, Martin Sheen, born Ramon Estevez, is an iconic actor who has been active in Hollywood for over six decades.
Charlie’s elder brother, known as Emilio Estevez, similarly trod the path of their father by acting in iconic movies such as “The Breakfast Club,” “St. Elmo’s Fire,” “Mission Impossible,” and “The Mighty Ducks.
The stars also share brother Ramon Estévez andsister Renée Estévez.
