As the highly anticipated WWE kickoff on ESPN draws nearer, tonight’s SmackDown served as the final preparations for WrestlePalooza, and Brock Lesnar’s return kicked off the night’s events. Throughout the evening, two Championship matches unfolded, a chilling vignette from the Wyatt Sicks, and the comeback of one of WWE’s most iconic figures. However, there were also some moments that left fans feeling slightly let down. Let’s dive into the top 3 MVPs of tonight’s SmackDown, but first, let’s address a few areas for improvement.
A significant problem arose during the night as neither of the Championship matches concluded with a clear victor. Although it would be acceptable if one match ended in a disqualification or a draw, having both games end without a decision being made is excessive, particularly since they were played so closely together.
Regarding Kiana James’ matches lately, it seems she hasn’t been fortunate enough to secure a victory since her comeback, often taking on the role of the underdog even when partnered with Giulia. I hope this story arc reaches a resolution at some point, as it’s rather unusual for someone freshly back in action to find themselves in such a prolonged losing streak. Now, let’s move on to more exciting topics, shall we?
3. Erick Rowan
The Wyatt Sicks have a message for The Street Profits…
— WWE (@WWE) September 13, 2025
It’s been quite entertaining to observe the turmoil wrought by The Wyatt Sicks on SmackDown, particularly within the Tag Team Division. Tonight, their campaign persisted with another eerie video clip, but what made this one distinct was the presence of Erick Rowan, a formidable force who is usually quite reserved.
During the promotion, Uncle Howdy initially took the lead, but soon after, Rowan stepped in, dramatically increasing the energy level by a significant margin. Unlike his usual reserved approach in promos, Rowan’s direct and focused style during this instance made his warnings towards the Street Profits seem even more menacing. Conversely, Uncle Howdy’s distinctive delivery created an excellent contrast. In essence, we could use more of Rowan delivering lines as it was captivating.
2. Tiffany Stratton
Previously in my MVP columns, I’ve acknowledged standout performers in matches between top talents, even though this technically results in more than just three MVPs at the end of the analysis. To simplify things moving forward, I’ll be focusing on highlighting only three individual superstars. In the recent match between Tiffany Stratton and Jade Cargill, both displayed exceptional skill. However, considering the raw talent, grit, and physicality that Stratton demonstrated throughout their contest, I believe she deserves the MVP recognition for this particular bout. Although the match wasn’t always seamless, its intensity and rough-and-tumble nature were commendable aspects worth acknowledging.
During the match, Stratton gave an all-around impressive performance. Her moves made Cargill’s offense appear stronger, especially during tough moments. On the offensive side, Stratton stood out, even executing a powerful dropkick at a great height when countering a power bomb attempt. If given more time, their next match could be their best yet, potentially turning into a Triple Threat match.
1. Rey Fenix
The contest between Sami Zayn and Rey Fenix was expected to be fantastic, and it certainly delivered with several remarkable highlights. These exceptional instances made it an exciting watch, which ultimately resulted in Fenix emerging victorious. If a match manages to achieve this level of excitement, you’re looking at a great one. Although both competitors showed their skills here, I must admit that Fenix stole the show.
From the moment Fenix debuted in WWE, he’s been nothing short of remarkable. With each passing match, his ring skills seem to polish even more, which is astonishing considering the complexity. Tonight was no different, as he flawlessly executed intricate moves with an ease that defies logic. The height and velocity at which he performs these feats are simply mind-blowing. One of many standout moments included a double stomp from the top rope followed by a flip off the opposite turnbuckle. Even in defeat, Fenix left an indelible impression on Zayn, making him shine like never before. What a match! Here’s hoping for a rematch sometime in the future.
