In its early stages, the DC Universe already boasts some memorable characters. One such character is Christopher Smith, better known as Peacemaker, who persists in his actions, even amidst shifting franchises. Superman is gaining recognition due to his more vulnerable portrayal compared to previous versions, confronting adversaries like Lex Luthor with a stern “keep it to yourself” if they disapprove of his methods. However, even the mighty Superman struggles against Luthor alone, necessitating Mister Terrific’s crucial involvement in foiling Luthor’s scheme to destroy Metropolis and eliminate its defender from the scene.
It’s terrific to witness Mister Terrific making a splash on the silver screen, as he’s among those DC superheroes who frequently go unnoticed. However, it’s not entirely accurate to say he’s been ignored, since there’s at least one other franchise that recognizes his potential. Here are three instances of Mister Terrific in the Arrowverse that demonstrate he was remarkable even before Superman’s debut.
3) Standing Up to Oliver Queen
Curtis Holt kicks off his adventures on The CW by aiding Felicity Smoak in the Arrow’s secret lair. His exceptional computer skills prove valuable to Oliver Queen and his team, yet he yearns for more. Leveraging his Olympic-level athletic abilities, Curtis dons the Mister Terrific persona and joins forces with the Green Arrow in their crime-fighting endeavors.
In the fifth season, Oliver’s team often disagrees with his approaches, particularly when he ventures independently to perform risky actions. An instance occurred where Mister Terrific, Artemis, and Wild Dog attempted to hinder their leader from breaching a prison. Despite receiving heavy blows, this incident demonstrated that asserting one’s own stand is an integral part of every Mister Terrific’s defense mechanism.
2) Inventing the T-Sphere
For a short while, Curtis becomes an employee at Palmer Technologies and encounters Felicity, who is the CEO of the company. They quickly develop a rapport due to their shared expertise in computer labs. Impressed by this bond, Felicity chooses to back one of Curtis’ innovations, called T-Spheres, which are compact drones with numerous capabilities. Initially, these devices tend to be stored more than used. However, after Mister Terrific’s birth, they regain their momentum.
In the open, Mister Terrific utilizes his T-Spheres to subdue the elusive and menacing Vigilante, a foe that even Green Arrow has struggled to apprehend. During the joint event “Crisis on Earth-X”, they return, aiding their owner in defeating some Nazi forces.
1) Showing Up for His Friends After “Crisis on Infinite Earths”
The grand finale crossover event in the Arrowverse, titled “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” takes a significant toll. During the fierce battle against the Anti-Monitor, Oliver Queen sacrifices his life. However, he ensures Star City’s safety by leaving it in capable hands before his demise. In the final episode of Arrow, all members of Team Arrow come together to pay tribute to their friend and rescue his abducted son, William.
Regardless of having parted ways with Team Arrow earlier, Mr. Terrific dons his suit once again, this time for the purpose of rescuing William. Additionally, he attends Oliver’s funeral, bidding farewell to the individual who provided him with the chance to embody heroism.
The Arrowverse shows are streaming on Netflix.
