Initially, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen were an intimidating pair in the NBA, but their friendship beyond the court seems to have cooled down significantly, leading to a prolonged dispute between them. The strife between the two was instigated when Pippen expressed his opinions about the documentary series “The Last Dance“, which can be watched with a Netflix subscription. Whether or not they’ll ever patch things up remains unclear, but one of their former teammates offers an insight on how they might make amends once more.
In a recent interview on the “Gimme the Hot Sauce Podcast”, hosted by fellow Chicago Bulls alum Stacey King, Horace Grant – who played with and won three championships alongside Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen between 1991 and 1993 – has weighed in on the ongoing feud between the legendary duo. When asked about what it might take for the two basketball greats to reconcile, Grant suggests that both Jordan and Pippen would need to let go of their pride.
It seems more straightforward to say: To achieve effective communication, one must set aside personal ego and pride. These two leaders I’ve played with are among the best. Michael Jordan, during his time with the Bulls before he retired, was an exceptional leader, arguably the best. After Jordan’s retirement, Scottie Pippen stepped into that role, becoming an undeniable leader. However, both Jordan and Pippen had to set aside their egos and pride to excel as leaders.
According to Horace Grant’s statements (available on YouTube), it appears the NBA All Star is hoping his teammates can move past their personal conflicts. As the conversation continued, Grant underscored his viewpoint, reminding everyone of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen’s remarkable achievements when they were on the court together – they won an impressive six championships. It seems probable that many others share this sentiment, including basketball enthusiasts who would delight in seeing these legendary figures reconcile their differences.

The intense dispute between Pippen and Jordan originated when the former criticized “The Last Dance,” a documentary that both found problematic, and harshly criticized his teammate for supposedly manipulating the production company’s creative control on the documentary to portray himself favorably. Since then, Pippen has frequently cast subtle insults towards Jordan, going so far as to call him an “awful” player. However, Jordan has not publicly spoken ill of his former teammate since then, and it is unclear whether he has made efforts to contact Pippen in private.

Despite Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley remaining at odds, a sports analyst continues to make efforts to bridge the gap between these two basketball legends.
Several teammates of the Bulls have since then voiced their opinions about the dispute, with Dennis Rodman being one of them. In 2023, Rodman expressed hope that they would eventually resolve their disagreement. However, in contrast, Chicago Bulls alum Charles Oakley stated last year that their friendship was finished and suggested that it had never been good to begin with. More recently, another former Chicago player, Bill Cartwright, labeled the entire situation as absurd, seeing that the two individuals were still holding onto a matter from many years ago.
At the current state, it appears unlikely that there will be a reconciliation or a heartfelt moment between Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. However, unexpected circumstances could potentially bring them together. As Horace Grant hinted at a possible change of heart and lowering of pride, it remains unclear if this will occur.
