Sheryl Lee Ralph is letting fans in on a little secret.
At the 2025 Emmys, held at the Peacock Theater, *Abbott Elementary* star Janelle James-nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series-shared the secret to her 20-year happy marriage with husband Vincent Hughes: keeping it simple.
During the *Live From TopMob: 2025 Emmys* red carpet on September 14th, Sheryl advised Zuri Hall, “I always tell people to avoid going to bed angry. Sheryl is nominated for an Emmy alongside Liza Colon Zayas from *The Bear*, Hannah Einbinder from *Hacks*, Kathryn Hahn and Catherine O’Hara from *The Studio*, Jessica Williams from *Shrinking*, and Janelle James, her co-star from *Abbott Elementary*. She shared that being married to someone she both loves and genuinely likes makes it easier to navigate disagreements. When she feels angry, she reminds herself, ‘I actually *like* this person.’ While love is constant, she admitted that *liking* someone can sometimes be more difficult, but ultimately, she really does like him.
Okay, so everyone’s wondering about Sheryl’s third Emmy nomination for *Abbott Elementary*, and honestly, she gives so much credit to Quinta Brunson, who created the show and stars alongside her. Sheryl really feels it’s Quinta’s vision that’s made this possible – and I totally agree! It’s amazing when you see that kind of collaborative energy translate to such incredible work.
Honestly, Quinta is just a genius! She’s so incredible with the writing, the pacing, *everything* about this show, I just completely trust her vision. I basically told her, ‘Quinta, you do *you*, girl!’ because the first time we did this, I won an Emmy! And I’ve been nominated every single year since – that *has* to mean she’s doing something right, right? I just let her lead the way, she knows best!
