Among the top games of 2025, Monster Hunter Wilds stands out, but you wouldn’t guess that from its PC version on Steam. Unfortunately, Capcom’s latest release has been receiving harsh criticism in its reviews due to its performance issues, with its rating currently labeled as “Overwhelmingly Negative.” Fortunately, Capcom has addressed these CPU problems by releasing Title Update 2 this week.
As a dedicated fan, I was concerned that the latest update might not address the game’s most pressing problem. However, when Capcom shared on their Monster Hunter Twitter: “Upon Title Update 2’s release, we’ve tackled an earlier issue where shader compilation during gameplay led to high CPU usage and instability,” my worries were alleviated. It’s great to see that they are working diligently to improve the game for us players!
With the latest upgrade, the shader compilation process is triggered upon starting the game after an update, rather than during gameplay. This change, theoretically, reduces the CPU workload within the game.
Although players seem to be enthusiastic about the game, a significant number of PC gamers appear to be less satisfied due to persistent performance issues. One user has reported that their performance remains unpredictable, while another mentioned that using the Heavy Bowgun noticeably decreases their frame rate. Some users claim the performance is improved, but they’re still encountering texture streaming problems.
Given that Capcom’s games generally perform well, with exceptions like Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds, it appears that the RE Engine might not excel in open-world game development. While it shines in titles such as Devil May Cry 5, Street Fighter 6, and Resident Evil, perhaps Capcom should explore other options for their open-world adventures.
