How Much Nate Bargatze Donated to the Boys & Girls Club After Emmys

Nate Bargatze held true to his word… kind of.

The host of the 2025 Emmy Awards, held in Los Angeles on September 14th at the Peacock Theater, jokingly said he’d reduce his $100,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America for every acceptance speech that lasted longer than 45 seconds. However, many speeches ran long, putting him in a difficult position.

Award winners, including Late Show host Stephen Colbert and Adolescence creator Stephen Graham, gave very lengthy acceptance speeches. At one point, the event was actually losing money, with a deficit of $26,000.

Nate joked towards the end of the ceremony, ‘This has been a fantastic night, and I think I actually made some money!’

Once the numbers dropped significantly and hit a surprisingly low point, the comedian announced he would still fulfill his pledge to donate to the charity, and had a special addition to the donation.

Nate announced at the end of the show that CBS would donate $100,000, and he personally would contribute $250,000, bringing the total donation to the Boys & Girls Club to $350,000.

The crowd cheered as he finished by saying, “Thank you all for coming. Congratulations to our winners, and goodnight.”

Nate’s attempt to keep speeches brief didn’t quite work as planned, but many people enjoyed playing along with the idea during the show. When Hannah Einbinder won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress, she jokingly offered to “make up the difference” if her acceptance speech ran too long.

During the awards show, John Oliver, host of *Last Week Tonight*, playfully called out Nate while accepting the award for Outstanding Variety Series. He kept his acceptance speech very brief – likely because Nate had pledged to donate more money for every short speech given.

John jokingly said from stage, “Seriously, Nate Bargatze, that’s a huge amount of money!” He then added with a laugh, “And that’ll be a contribution to the swear jar.”
