Emmys 2025: The Biggest Moments You Didn’t See on TV

Honestly, everyone thinks they know what happens at awards shows because they see it on TV, but let me tell you, the *real* stuff, the moments you’d be dying to see, happen behind the scenes. It’s where everything truly goes down, and it’s way more interesting than anything they show on the broadcast!

The 2025 Emmys, playfully hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze, saw stars like Selena Gomez, Seth Rogen, and Pedro Pascal-along with the entire cast of *The White Lotus*-relaxing, chatting, and taking pictures at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater.

Whether they won an award (like Seth, who made Emmy history with *The Studio*) or not (Pedro, for example, didn’t have a large role in *The Last of Us*), the biggest stars at the 2025 Emmys seemed to be there to enjoy themselves. (You can find the complete list of winners here.)

Many celebrities enjoyed a night out, including Selena Gomez and her fiancé Benny Blanco, Reba McEntire and her new fiancé Rex Linn, Ben Stiller with Christine Taylor, Colin Jost and Scarlet Johansson, Carrie Coon and Tracy Letts, and Adam Brody and Leighton Meester.

The live CBS broadcast had its share of funny moments, including some mistakes and censored words. One running gag involved Nate Bargatze’s promised $100,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Club of America decreasing as winners went over the 45-second speech limit. Hannah Einbinder, who won Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, offered to cover the shortfall after exceeding the time limit herself, but the organization was already guaranteed at least a six-figure donation.

While all of this was happening and being shown on television, it was impossible to follow every detail everywhere simultaneously.

So let us help with that.

From casual chats in the audience during breaks to quick, fleeting moments you might have missed, we’ve collected all the behind-the-scenes action. Keep reading to see what the stars did when they weren’t on camera!

Pedro Pascal, from *The Last of Us*, and Sam Rockwell, of *The White Lotus*, who are both nominated and friends in real life, seemed genuinely surprised to be where they are in their careers.

Even though Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel compete with their late-night shows, they’ve come together, along with their wives Evelyn McGee-Colbert and Molly McNearny, to support a common cause.

Stephen Colbert won his first Outstanding Talk Series award since becoming the host of *The Late Show* on CBS in 2015.

Hobbled by a torn Achilles but strong in spirit, Sterling K. Brown posed for a pic with Tina Fey.

Everyone watched *Last Week Tonight with John Oliver* win the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Series again – it was the show’s 32nd Emmy win in total – but you might have missed what John Oliver said during the broadcast.

John Oliver jokingly told Nate Bargatze, “That’s a lot of money for you!” He intentionally cut his comments short to help Bargatze fulfill a pledge to donate to the Boys & Girls Club of America, which required speech winners to stay under 45 seconds. Oliver then added, “And you can add a ‘swear word’ to the swear jar as well!”

Britt Lower, who won for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, playfully hinted at the complex plot of *Severance* by writing “LET ME OUT” on the back of her award speech.

Comedy stars Seth Rogen, winning his first Emmy for *The Studio*, and Jean Smart, who secured her seventh Emmy with *Hacks*, were celebrated as the top performers in comedic acting.

Sheryl Lee Ralph of *Abbot Elementary* considers her husband, Vincent Hughes, her lifelong date, and they share a loving relationship both at home and as partners.

The White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood and boyfriend Adam Long looked like the least tragic of couples.

Jake Gyllenhaal made a rare award show appearance with girlfriend Jeanne Cadieu.

While we’re not investigators, all signs currently point to Selena Gomez and her fiancé, Benny Blanco, being very happy together.

The actress, known for her roles in *Euphoria* and *The White Lotus*, kept warm with a vibrant red shawl by Oscar de la Renta throughout the awards show.

Lisa and Tayme Thapthimthong, who both appeared in *The White Lotus*, have good reason to be proud of their accomplishments and the paths they took to achieve them.

With several cast members leaving before season 51, Bowen Yang of *Saturday Night Live* recently spoke with Colin Jost and his wife, Scarlett Johansson, who is often a guest on the show.

Harrison Ford, nominated for an Emmy for the first time for his role in *Shrinking*, attended the awards show with his wife, Calista Flockhart.

Michelle Williams and her husband, director Thomas Kail, recently welcomed their third child through surrogacy and are likely exhausted, but they still looked incredibly stylish at an event.

Colin Farrell caught up with some cronies while celebrating The Penguin‘s 24 Emmy nominations.
