The MCU’s Best Villain Actor Wants to Jump to The DCU (And Fans Approve It)

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for its excellent casting, where actors truly became their characters. Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, and Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff are all considered the best versions of those heroes. On TV, Vincent D’Onofrio’s performance as Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin, was particularly impactful. His complex portrayal of the villain was key to the success of Marvel’s more grounded stories, starting with *Daredevil* and continuing in *Daredevil: Born Again*. Now, after years of playing a memorable MCU villain, D’Onofrio is looking to take on a new role in the DC Universe.

I was so excited to see Vincent D’Onofrio publicly say he *wants* to play Swamp Thing in the new DCU! Someone asked him on X (formerly Twitter), and he just straight-up said ‘Yes, he should!’ It’s not the first time he’s mentioned it, either. He actually talked about Swamp Thing at Dragon Con earlier this year, saying he loved the character as a kid, right alongside Batman and Spider-Man. It’s clear this isn’t just a random thing for him – he’s a genuine fan! The post blew up immediately, and everyone on Reddit, especially over on the DC_Cinematic subreddit, is totally on board. Seriously, the support is overwhelming – everyone thinks he’d be *amazing* as Swamp Thing!

The push for a new Swamp Thing movie comes as DC Studios is already working on one as a key part of its new movie universe. DC co-CEO James Gunn announced the project, and well-known director James Mangold is writing and directing it. Mangold intends to create a classic, atmospheric horror film similar to stories like *Frankenstein*. The movie will likely be heavily inspired by Alan Moore’s famous *Swamp Thing* comic book series, exploring the sad and complex story of scientist Alec Holland and his transformation into a creature who protects the environment.

Vincent D’Onofrio Will Return as Kingpin for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2

Despite also pursuing a role in the new DC Universe, Vincent D’Onofrio is confirmed to return as Wilson Fisk in the second season of *Daredevil: Born Again*. The show will continue on Disney+ with a premiere date set for March 2026. After a change in plans – the original season was split into two – the new episodes will immediately follow the events of the first season’s exciting finale. The creative team describes Season 2 as a story of resistance, where Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) will work to build a team and fight against Fisk’s controlling power over New York City. The season will also bring back characters from the previous Marvel Netflix shows, including Jessica Jones, played by Krysten Ritter.

The conflict between Kingpin and Daredevil might not be over after the current season. Charlie D’Onofrio, who plays Kingpin, has said there are plans for a third season of *Daredevil: Born Again*, but whether it happens depends on how well the new episodes are received. This fits with Marvel’s current plan to create TV shows that tell stories over multiple seasons, meaning Kingpin could remain a major threat in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a long time.

The second season of Daredevil: Born Again is scheduled to premiere in March 2026.

I’m really excited about the idea of Vincent D’Onofrio playing Swamp Thing! It feels like perfect casting. What do *you* think? Let’s chat about it over on the ComicBook Forum – come join the discussion now!
