BOOM! Studios Announces Final Chapter of Dark Fantasy Series Briar (Exclusive)

There’s a unique appeal to reimagined fairy tales, and *Briar* has been a standout example. This dark fantasy take on Sleeping Beauty, created by writer Christopher Cantwell and artist Germán García, has drawn readers in since its release in 2022. Now, like all good stories, *Briar*’s journey is nearing its end. BOOM! Studios has announced the final chapter, *Briar: Night’s Terror* #1, will arrive in comic shops on December 3rd and is available for pre-order now.

In *Briar: Night’s Terror*, created by Cantwell and Garcia with art by Alex Lins, Briar Rose and Spider finally enjoy a romantic moment in High Scrape. However, they still face one final, dangerous obstacle: the treacherous Fallswitch Traps, which stand between them and Grendrid’s lair. The journey is perilous, but the challenge awaiting them is even greater – a powerful spell to restore Grendrid to her full strength. Will our heroes be ready for the ultimate battle?




The first issue of *Briar: Night’s Terror* has cover art by Lins, the series artist, and includes variant covers by Filipe Andrade, Morgan Beem, Becky Cloonan, and Tyler Crook, as shown in the images.

The Final Chapter of a Beloved Story

Originally released in 2022 as a short-run series, *Briar* quickly gained a dedicated following thanks to its fresh and dark twist on the classic Sleeping Beauty story. Due to its popularity, the series was continued beyond the initial plan in 2023 and expanded with a new storyline. *Briar* presents a world where Prince Charming didn’t wake Sleeping Beauty, but instead married her to gain her power, leaving her to remain asleep.






I’ve always dreamed of tackling a high fantasy story – it started way back when I first read Robert E. Howard. But I was always a little hesitant about *how* to approach it. I wanted something fresh, but also something that really honored the fun of classic sword and sorcery. Lately, I’ve been feeling like the world is just… falling apart, you know? Everything feels so unstable. Those two ideas sort of collided in my head and became *Briar*. It’s about a character who remembers a simpler, more innocent time, then wakes up to find everything in chaos. It really makes you wonder, how do you even survive that? And what happens when all your plans fall apart and suddenly feel pointless? Where do you even *begin* to find new meaning in your life?
