Out Today: Skate Makes Its Big Return in Early Access on PS5, PS4, and It’s Free to Play

Skate fans have long asked for a new game in the series, and EA has finally delivered! The latest Skate title is now available in early access on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

Full Circle Studio has brought back the skateboarding franchise, reimagining it as a free-to-play game where players can freely explore and create.

Even though the game is still in early access and not fully finished, it already plays really well. The series’ signature “Flick-It” control system is working perfectly, and it’s instantly familiar – like putting on a comfortable old pair of shoes.

If you’re new to the game, most tricks are done with the right stick. Pull it down and then quickly up to ollie, or move it left or right to perform a heelflip or kickflip.

While there are deeper elements to explore, that’s the main idea. It feels great and is easy to use, offering a more realistic experience compared to games like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater.

However, the game isn’t entirely realistic. You can climb almost anything in the city of San Vansterdam, and jump from great heights to pull off incredible, over-the-top stunts.

It’s silly, but a lot of fun to goof around with.

The game is packed with missions and challenges. As you complete them in each part of the city, you’ll earn experience points and unlock even more content.

The game is clearly still in development, as you’d expect from an early access title. The graphics are a bit unpolished, and the world can feel empty in places. However, we anticipate the developer will improve things with updates during this early access period.

This game is built as a constantly active online world where you’ll find hundreds of other players. While there are challenges to complete, it’s largely about creating your own experiences and having fun. You can even use items like ramps and rails to build and customize areas.

It’s definitely worth a try at the very least — it’s free, after all.
