A new short film based on the popular animated musical series, KPop Demon Hunters, has been rated, suggesting it will be released shortly. KPop Demon Hunters, which premiered on Netflix on June 20, 2025, was highly praised by critics and attracted a large audience. In addition to the short film, a follow-up movie is also being planned.

A new KPop Demon Hunters short film reportedly gets PG rating

A new short film based on KPop Demon Hunters, called Debut: A KPop Demon Hunters Story, has received a PG rating from the Motion Picture Association. This suggests the film could be released soon, although the specific date hasn’t been announced yet. It’s currently unclear where the short will be shown – it could be on Netflix, another streaming service, in theaters, or alongside a future KPop Demon Hunters movie.

I recently learned the intriguing short film, *Debut: A KPop Demon Hunters Story*, actually started as a mentorship project at Sony. Back in March 2023, Sony announced a short film coming out of their LENS program – a program designed to nurture new storytelling talent. It seems *Debut* is the result of the program’s second group of participants, following a project set in the *Spider-Verse* universe called *The Spider Within*. It’s great to see Sony investing in fresh voices and expanding their animated worlds in such a unique way.

Honestly, I’m really curious about what this short film will be about. From what I’ve gathered, it could go one of two ways: it might delve into the backstory of Huntr/x, the K-pop group the main characters are in, or it could send them on a completely new adventure separate from everything we’ve seen so far. Either way, I’m excited to find out!

It’s currently unknown which actors from the original film will return for this short. The voice cast features Arden Cho as Rumi (voiced by Ejae), May Hong as Mira (voiced by Audrey Nuna), and Ji-young Yoo as Zoey (voiced by Rei Ami).

A PG rating denotes “parental guidance suggested. Some material may not be
suitable for children.”
